Bathinda stands among the oldest cities in Punjab and is also called as the 'City of Lakes'. Serving as one of the biggest railways junctions of India, it connects a number of cities with one another. The city houses Guru Nanak Dev Thermal Plant and Guru Hargobind Thermal Plant, which are two of the modern thermal plants in the country. It is also home to Qila Mubarak which is one of the best places to visit in Bathinda. This oldest small brick monument has two shrines where visitors offer their prayers.
During a trip to Bathinda, travellers can also pay a visit to the Mazaar of Pir Baba Haji Rattan, which is one of the holiest places of worship in the region. This shrine is one-of-its-kind due to the fact that a gurudwara and a mosque situated here share the same wall. A temple is also in the vicinity, which makes this whole area a sacred place for Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs.
Besides the above mentioned shrine, tourists can visit the Chetak Park to enjoy the company of tall trees and fresh air. It has a scenic lake where tourists can spend evenings with their near and dear ones. Another place of tourist interest is the Bahia Fort which was built by S. Balwant Singh Sidhu in 1930. The Rose Garden, Lakhi Jungle and Zoological Garden are some of the other places which travellers can explore.
Other things to do in Bathinda include boating in Kashmir-style shikaras on the Thermal Lake. Apart from this, tourists can spend some time shopping in Mittal Mall, Peninsula Mall, City Center Mall and City Walk Mall. Dhobi Bazaar is also a perfect place to shop as it houses showrooms of several popular brands.
