For the second year in a row my partner and I spent a winter month travelling around India by bus and train to escape the bleak European winter. In all of the places we visited during those two months, this was unquestionably our worst experience. We hopped off the bus in the early evening, looking forward to visiting Bekal Fort the next morning. The timing is crucial here because it was early evening with no possibility of moving on without a car. We found the Nirvana straight away and we were shown accommodation in a flimsy cabin and asked for 3,700 INR for the night. We said that was a bit steep and the manager/owner offered a reduction to 3,000. We were stuck, so we said fine and then the nightmare began. The furniture in the pokey little room was cheap and decrepit, the shower was a lukewarm trickle, The AC unit was noisy, ineffective and kept cutting out, the toilet was broken and did not flush properly, curtains were inadequate to shut out the outdoor lights and there were no mosquito nets for the beds with plenty of places for the mosquitoes to get in. We surveyed all this sadly, and decided on an early evening sunset stroll along the beach to the nearby fishing village. We had just arrived from consecutive nights at Palolem and Neelchand, both offering clean, well priced accommodation on beautiful well maintained beaches. The beach we found here offered a truly shocking contrast. It was filthy and litter strewn as we walked towards the lights in the distance. The small community of fishing people were huddled around fires burning plastic sitting on to what was to all intents and purposes a rubbish dump. The atmosphere was threatening and unfriendly and we retreated to our room. But worst of all..... The Sri Mukhrapyana Temple next door, just a few yards away from our room, started playing recorded religious music on very poor quality equipment, at a very high level. When the electricity failed for the first time, our lights went out, the air conditioning stopped and mercifully so did the music. We sat in the dark and said 'well I suppose we could at least try for an early sleep.' No such luck. Lights, music and air conditioning all came on again, and then off again and then on again and then..... You get the idea! Eventually the music stopped, the lights continued to come on and off, so we so we just gave up and huddled down for an uncomfortable night. It was a short night though, because on the stroke of six in the morning, the music started up again. No chance of any more sleep, so we got up, ate a mediocre breakfast and visited the fort. That, I am happy to say was a delightful experience. Visit Fort Bekal! You'll love it! But come by car or an early bus. That way you will never have to set foot in the woeful over-priced Nirvana.

This resort is just close to bekal fort and beach..a 2 min walk.. Rooms are maintained well.. There's no pool in this property.. Food was ok... Language barrier cz staff don't speak English.. It s very noisy as there s a mosque nearby..

  • Quiet resort

Kasargod where nirvana is situated is a very quiet, random spot. The speciality of the place is the huge and old fort which nirvana literally shares a wall with. The rooms are clean and nice, the staff very accommodating and the home style cooked food quite good! Our first room, the Ac didn't work but we asked and got it changed and the other rooms were very fine.

  • Closest place to bakel fort and you can walk to the beach

I did not like the rooms at all but I still give a high rating because of their hospitality, ability to customise the food and the flexibility in the room tariff. There is also couple of other factors why I want to a higher rating because of the proximity to bakel fort (hardly 2mins walking distance) and a kind of private beach (3 mins walking). My suggestion to the hotel management would be to maintain the rooms bit more efficiently and effectively. This will definitely attract more customers because of the location.
