My family and I stayed here on our trip of the Golden Triangle and it was by far the nicest of all the places we stayed! From the moment we arrived, we received the most amazing hospitality. We were greeted with fresh wet towels and complimentary drinks in order to freshen up and were told we had received an upgrade to our rooms. The building is absolutely beautiful, an oasis in the middle of a little village. Our rooms were incredible! Private courtyards opened with old locks led into beautiful bedrooms with an extra room in front and luxurious beds. The ambience of the hotel was very calming and the swimming area, garden and views were all lovely. Dinner was delicious and the service excellent. As we wanted to visit the Bharatpur Bird Reserve early next morning, the hotel packed us a complemenary breakfast which was ready for us when we left. We were able to extend our check out time, in order to make the most of our visit to the reserve and were greeted with a delicous breakfast. Sadly, it was all too soon time to leave again but all of us were in agreement that this hotel is something unique! I urge anyone staying in the area to choose this gem of a place!

The hotel itself is fantastic: good infrastructure, elegant decoration (a good mix between modern and classic), comfort of the rooms, the exquisite gardens. On top of that, the staff is always there for you in a kind and helpful way. Finally, the little village where the hotel is situated is a must see if you want to have a flavor of rural India. We had a little tour guided by one of the staff members and it became one of the strongest memories of our stay in India.

This hotel has a quirky feel to it. It's off the main road, reached through a village about a half-hour's drive from the Keoladeo Bird sanctuary, so seems to be in the middle of nowhere. It's a beautifully restored, spacious old Haveli with lovely gardens and a gorgeous pool area. On the night we stayed there, we were one of only two couples and we were upgraded to a suite, with its own balcony and courtyard:- lovely. It felt rather strange, though, with the staff (friendly and willing) outnumbering the guests so much and, as we were the only ones eating in the restaurant that evening, atmosphere was somewhat lacking. Having said that, the staff were very attentive and the meal was excellent. We ordered about an hour in advance, as everything is prepared to order, and the restaurant manager helped us with our choices. The spacious bathroom was well equipped, but I could have done with an explanation of how the water heater worked, so that I didn't use up all the hot water before my husband had his shower! The hotel offer camel-cart rides and walking tours of the village, which I would have enjoyed had we been there for longer and I'm sure the pool area would have been a lovely place to recharge my batteries had we been staying longer. However, the hotel really needs (and deserves) to get more people to stay there to get a little more relaxed atmosphere.

This was my own fault: I just didn't check how close to Bharatpur's bird sanctuary this was. We did most of our trip by train, and so when we got to Chandra Mahal (by taxi), we realised that as it is more than half an hour's drive away, it wasn't ideal. The car and driver provided by the hotel was fine, but expensive. As we spent two days in the sanctuary, and this (rather than staying and relaxing by the pool at the hotel) was very much the point of being there, this did add to our costs a bit. We should have stayed in the lodge in the reserve itself, though I know it would have been much less luxurious. Having said that, I would like to thank the staff at the Haveli for leaping into action at very short notice to provide my husband with not only a birthday cake, but a bouguet of gladioli, for his birthday! Very kind of them, and a special memory from the trip.

A little off the beaten track but a relaxing place to stay. Beautiful gardens and characterful, well equipped rooms. Suites with private terrace are like having your own residence. Now has good WiFi and bar licence. Accommodates drivers if you are on a private tour. Highly recommended.
