One of the most unpleasant hotel experiences I have ever had. The person running the check in desk who seemed to be related to the owner was one of the most cynically dishonest hoteliers I have come across. The lazy dishonesty and blatant desire to overcharge was frankly depressing. (I might add that one expects to be overcharged as a Westerner in India, we can afford it, but the revolting and flagrant dishonesty of the management was eye opening). There is nothing I can say about the management here that is positive - however many of the other staff were very charming and let down by their employers. The room had air conditioning which would run for a minute or two before it tripped the electrics so there might be a question of electrical safety here. The "window" in the room opened on to a 12 inch wide gap between buildings. Weirdly the water pressur ein the bathroom is extraordinary. If you are looking for a hotel with very good water pressure this could be the palce for you - otherwise avoid at all costs. Please DO NOT consider going here for your own sanity or your Buddhist credentials will likely go out of the awful window.

This hotel is very near the Mahabodi Temple, but this would be the only reason to stay here. Room had no window and a grubby wet room where the water not only flooded the bathroom but also into the bedroom and out into the corridor. The hotel comprises 2 buildings which are, almost, joined together. The gaps between the 2 made the place feel insecure and a bit spooky at night. Decent breakfast, although in canteen like and windowless room.

Hotel Tathagat International have a nice restaurant on the ground floor beside the reception counter.. It had nice ambiance of a restaurant, fully air conditioned and also with fan to add to the breeze. It is bright and cosy with well trained staff, attentive and provides good service.. I ate mostly vegetarian food...fried rice with eggs or vegetarian fried rice.. The restaurant is a bit small, so on certain days it was full and there is no place to eat. This restaurant was recommended by a local Bihari businessman and you get quality food when you compared with other restaurants in Bodhgaya. The restuarant is very clean with good furniture and decoration. .But the hotel is on the expensive side beside the main road exposed to dust and noise. It doesnt look impressive from the outside as it was bit old. I inquired about the tariff and the cheapest room was 1500 rupees . It was just in front of the Mahabodhi Temple I didn't stay there but i enjoy eating in Hotel Tathagat restuarant probably because of good service, good food, reasonable price, cleanliness and the staff were attentive. I wrote this review as Hotel Tathagat International Restaurant is not listed in Trip Advisor.

Stayed in this hotel and it was so noisy from the traffic outside and the hotel staffs. Certain morning there was a morning call for some big group and the hotel staffs just went knocking the door and disturb the rest of the guests. Very inconsiderate. On one morning, they came knocking at my door mistaken my room as one of the "morning call room" and it was 3.30am in the morning. The toilet wasn't very clean and also smell of mould.. Price of a 5 star hotel in Gaya but service and room conditions wasn't good..

Hotel room is simple- a balcony faces the dusty road, toilet is fairly clean but difficult to get a hot shower at night or early morning, as the main switch gets turned off; lift is broken; Wifi only available in the room, connection slow. Breakfast consists of eggs, toast with jam / butter, tea/coffee/hot milk/small juice (pick one). We had a very rude waiter who slammed the basket of bread on the table the first morning, and a courteous one the next. We asked for hot chocolate, and they said no; I noticed other guests coming in and asking for the same, and they replied in the negative day after day. I thought that if it was such a popular item, management would put it on the menu. That about sums up the attitude of the management, which I got to experience first hand. I booked 3 rooms with one website for the first night weeks prior, and 3 rooms with another website for the second night 4 days prior to check-in. On checking-in, I informed Reception about the arrangement. On the second day at about 3 pm, when I returned to the hotel, staff descended on me demanding why I did not check out at noon. They did not believe I booked the second night. I had to go to my room to forward them the email. Within minutes, Reception called to ask why it was taking so long. I was summoned to the manager's office, and forced to wait while matter was resolved. They initially suspected I was making the booking in the room. However they were pleasant when the booking was confirmed.
