  • Outside is pretty

    by beadfreak on

We booked this lodge for two nights and only stayed one. It looks so nice on the outside with beautiful coloured flowers in gardens and pots. Inside is another story, It needs a good make over and is not clean. Our bed sheets were not washed we put our dupatas over the bed and even had to cover the pillows. It could be made nice if they cleaned it up. The food was fine and the staff very helpful and friendly. All it needs is some serious 'Elbow Grease'

  • An Excellent Place to stay

    by Ranajit M on

During our recent visit to Shantiniketan we booked the Tourist Lodge by sheer chance. On reaching it was a grand surprise - the ambiance, flowers, spotless rooms, facilities and the cooperation of the staff were all exceptional. We could not have been happier even in a 5-star hotel and that at perhaps a quarter of the cost. On top of it the food in the restaurant was excellent and very reasonably priced. This place should be the first choice of anyone visiting Shantiniketan for pleasure.

  • Beyond words

    by GomesMagdalene on

Honestly I am short of words to describe Shantobitan - our 4 days stay at this place was an amazing experience. The services, food, staff and especially the Manager (Mr. Raju) all deserve 5-star. I could even give more stars. Thanks everyone at Shantobitan for making our stay so enjoyable. God bless you all.

  • Excellent resort close to the university

    by subghosh on

Shantobitan (also referred to by its old name 'Santiniketan Tourist Lodge') is an excellent resort owned and operated by the West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation. Currently, the resort has a few standard and deluxe cottages. More rooms would get added soon. With open spaces, lawns and an ever helpful staff, this is a great place to stay when you come to explore Santiniketan. The restaurant has a limited menu and is designed primarily for the Bengali palate. Just a word of caution. The resort does not have a travel desk, and many people get deceived by the battery-powered vehicle ("Toto") operators in the name of a "guided tour of the university" and end up shelling out a lot of money for virtually nothing. It's advisable to use these "Totos" for point-to-point rides (shared or full vehicle reservation) but not for a guided tour. If you need a car, contact one of the travel agencies near the university. If you need a guide at the Visva-Bharati University, reach the university and take one of the guides from the "Chhatimtala" or the Museum. The Museum is closed on Wednesdays & Thursdays. Ignore the Toto guys who would promise to take you to all the places in the university. It's a scam. In any case, you have to cover all the places on foot, and they are quite close to each other. Entry timings for various places within the university campus depend on whether the academic session is on and class timings. Instead of depending on the Toto operators for advice (in all probability, they would tell you that all departments are accessible if you hop on their vehicles), ask the security guards at the department gates about visitor timings.

  • Very nice weekend stay in a beautiful place sarrounded with very nice & helpful person.

Santiniketan tourist lodge under West Bengal tourism department situated near Bolpur station is a well mentained nice place to spend a peaceful family weekend trip. Bolpur was established & named as Santiniketan by Maharshi Devendranath Tagore and later extended as the University town by creation of Vishva Bharati University by his son and our great poet musician Rabindranath Tagore. This lodge is very near to Visha Bharati University area where you can see the richness of education & culture ,museums where pictures & articles of Tagore r kept , Sonajhuri haat which is a village market place in open place with rich art & craft at low prices. At Saturday evening you can also enjoy local folk dances.Amar kutir a place of local handicrafts art & craft. In poush mela ie.in January & Doul utsav ie. Holy, people from all over the world comes here to enjoy its rich art culture & colourful pureness. More over the Maneger Mr.Raju is a very nice & helpful person & the staffs , food ,behaviour & maintainance everything is up to the marks.

  • Choose the cottage rooms

by SamiddhaGoswami on September 6, 2019

  • Opt for Deluxe Cottages. These are the best. Do not opt for cottages at the end of the complex. Prefer those at the middle of the row.

  • If you can climb, 'Large AC Double Bedded Rooms' in the second floor are better.

    by Arabinda S on November 9, 2018

  • Cottages which are not towards the road are better.
