Situated on the foothills of the Himalayan Ranges, Chalsa is a small town in West Bengal which is surrounded by lush green forests, sparkling lakes, vast tea plantations and small hills. During British rule, the town was also known as 'Queen of Duars'. Gorumara National Park and Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary surround the town on both sides and are places of high tourist interest. The forests are home to nearly 250 species of animals, especially elephants and rhinos. Sal Tree, Rain Tree, Common Teak, Silk Cotton Tree, Terai Grasslands and Bamboo Groves form a major part of flora in the forests. Taking a stroll in the lush green forests and appreciating nature's charm are some of the enjoyable things to do in Chalsa.
While on a Chalsa tour, tourists can also pay a visit to the places like Jayanti, Totopara, Nilpara, Chilabata and Kodalbosti. Raimatang, Nimati, Rajabhatkhawa, Buxa Tiger Reserve & Buxa Duar are some places of tourist interest around Chalsa which are easily accessible by road. Majority of these places are exuberant forests with exotic scenery. Nature lovers would find a trip to these places very interesting and enthralling as they offer unparalleled scenic beauty.
Tourists can also visit other magnificent destinations nearby including Samsing, Bindu and Murti. Samsing is famous for its orange plantations, Jaldhaka River and exquisite scenic beauty. Jaldhaka River further flows through the valleys of Bindu village which is located in the foothills of the Himalayas. The scenic view of the village is charming as most of the parts are still not explored and exploited.
