On previous visits to Chennai I have used other Hotels such as Westin, Sheraton but this time I used Holiday Inn as the location is perfect for me and the rate it is half the price with equally as good services The room was spacious with a King size bed, work desk and lounger, bathroom is modern with all facilities. There is an ironing board, kettle and safe provided. I used the restaurant and bar for dinner and both were excellent. All in all I cannot fault this hotel and will stay here on my next visit to Chennai.

Service & food at the all day diner Cafe G is excellent. We were served and taken care by Preethi from FnB team who ensured our experience of first visit to the restaurant ends on a positive note. Would definitely like to come back soon. Ushnish Buffet cheque no.4536

I had a great stay. Your team members touched my heart in more ways than one for which I am very grateful. Please do let the following team members know a big thank you from my side. 1)Nikhil and Avik were the heroes of my stay. They are so empathetic. I remember calling Avik a day before I checked in, requesting him to give me the same room where I stayed last time and he happily obliged. He works from his heart and it shows in every transaction of his. Nikhil is a great leader - with amazing ownership concept. He takes charge of things end to end - the hallmark of a true leader. 2)Devyani(composed and mature), Pallavi(ever willing to help), Lopa( very warm), Vinay( with a smile that makes you feel at home),Anupam(attentive and sharp), Prahlad(my friend for ages) were the other members from FO who impressed me. 3) The restaurant team was unbelievably caring. Chef Shanmugha Prabhu led from the front. His servitude is one to remember. He conducted himself as the head of the family! Chef Tiru Pathy and Soma Shekhar ensured that I get my favourite Pessarattu for bfast every morning with remarkable accuracy. 4)I humbly bow to Chef Karthi for remembering me from my last visit. He whipped up an excellent Thai Curry for me - just the way I love it. His energy and enthusiasm is inspiring. He delivers what he promises. 5) The F&B team at Cafe G has a great human being in Satish as their leader. Hats off to Vignesh and John for serving me so well. Vignesh even helped me trace my missing earphone ! Anindita and Sumedha were so professional and warm in their service. 6) The HK department deserves its due as much. Vignesh made my room and left a small note for me which touched my heart. Ajish and Jagan from the laundry where awesome- so was Sundar from Engg who came to fix my TV remote and Siva ( HK) who did not open my room at my request when I had misplaced my key. He reminded me that the security protocol of the hotel does not allow him to do so. I really admire his sense of responsibility. 7) Last but not the least 2 team members who hit the bulls eye through their passion to connect with guests - Avijit from IRD and Koneshwari Bora from the security team. My special thanks to both of them. Thank you once again for the outstanding hospitality and I look forward to seeing you soon.

Despite having rooms available, Anu and Avik didnt give an early check in. Add to that, we have been to the hotel earlier. Absolutely crappy hotel policy and very poor customer service. Zero focus on delight. Only charge as much as you can!

>> Access & Location 4/5: As I continue to go to Chennai regularly for official work, I am staying in different hotels and experiencing the hospitality being offered by various brands Accor, Taj and IHG. After staying in Novotel Sipcot, Novotel OMR and Gateway, it was time for me to stay in Holiday Inn at Thiruvanmiyur. The hotel was about 30 min drive from the airport and bang on the IT expressway right at the Tharamani Road OMR junction. >> Checkin & Luggage Delivery 1/5 Checkin was somewhat slow and could have been faster. The lady at the counter took considerably long time for the check in. Also, filling the address and other details could be easily avoided may be by simply asking for business card. The breakfast was also purportedly not included in the package an anomaly that was corrected by my office travel desk. The major disappointment was in luggage delivery. At the time of check in, I asked about the luggage and I was told that it would reach my room since there was no tagging done, I wondered how they would identify it. After 10 min of wait, when I called the front desk, they said they were bringing the luggage. After 5 min, they called me to ask the colour of my luggage surely the process flow had broken down as they had not tagged my luggage properly so as to get it delivered to my room. Furthermore, when entering the hotel I gave my laptop bag for screening and inside, there was no one to hand my bag back I kept hunting for the bag. Hotel should have some signage for collecting scanned bags. The lobby was like another business hotel nothing to write home about. >> Rooms 4.5/5 My room was on the 6th floor with 4th to 9th floor reserved for guest rooms restaurant in 3rd floor and meeting rooms and banquet halls in lower floors. I found the room particularly impressive especially small walkin closet where one could keep luggage on one side, almirah on other side and full side mirror in between. Possibly the rooms were slightly broader thereby allowing for greater space in the room. There were four pillows on the bed with a mix of soft and firm options. Linen were clean and white as they ought to be. The remote had a small holder along with channel menu that caught my attention. Overall, I found the rooms quite comfortable and well done. Small innovations like remote holder and channel bouquet menu was appreciated. Furthermore, the very wide side tables as against the small and clumsy ones of Novotel was another big relief allowing the water bottles, and mobiles to breathe easy on the table. >> Bathroom 4/5 The bathrooms were modern with a glass partition with automatic blinds separating the room and bathroom. I guess this has become a standard feature in all modern hotels where the shower area has a bedroom view and vice versa. There were limited toiletries including shower gel, shampoo, lotion some additional toiletries like shaving and dental kit were stacked in a plastic container in the bathroom. The water pressure was not enough and I feel Chennai has a water crisis. >> Food & Breakfast 4/5 I had breakfast at the hotel and a lunch. For a north Indian, the breakfast was quite upto mark. Now live counters are standard and in Chennai, it is common to have counters for a) Eggs and related preparation, b) Dosa and other South Indian preparation c) Gobi and Paneer Paratha d) Puri & Subji and e) Other western counters that I did not bother. Service was prompt and fast staff was responsive and reasonably trained. Parathas and overall breakfast were pretty good. Minor sore point was dirty table mats that were possibly not changed after every meal. Overall breakfast was excellent. Lunch was bit let down @INR999 as North Indian options were quite limited. I hardly got any suitably curry for the meal. The curry spread for north Indian should be major area of improvement. Mini bar was many times the MRP and was left alone! Again the rates across hotels were similar. >> Facilities 4/5 There was small swimming pool and a gym on third floor then there were party halls, and meeting rooms. I did not see any greenery or lawns at the busy hotel on a busy junction. >> Service & Staff 4/5 Overall, I found the service staff courteous the interactions limited to the breakfast venue and odd call for a non-existent laundary. >> The Plastic Problem 1/5 In all the hotels of Chennai, I am deeply upset by burgeoning use of 500ml plastic bottles in rooms and 200ml plastic bottles in breakfast. There was no concerted effort from the hotel to reduce plastic use or move to Glass Reusable Bottles. And then there are landfills coming up everywhere? Where is the commitment of the hotel for reuse and avoiding single use plastic? Another trick used by some hotels is to do away with the plastic disposable shampoo and shower gel bottles and instead, they have refillable gel in the shower area. My guess is the toiletries and water bottles are top plastic contributors in hotels and there are easy alternates available to take care of them. >> Overall 4.5/5 Overall, this was a wonderful stay at Holiday Inn with well-done rooms and very good breakfast. The slow check-in process and delayed baggage delivery notwithstanding, it was comfortable and exceeded my expectations. Also, its central location meant that the airport and the workplace was never far away. May be on another day and time, I shall see the nearby beaches that I missed. Some of the reviews suggested that the top floors on one side of the corridor had nice sea views. Happy Holiday Inning! PS: there is another Holiday Inn express that is a cheaper option on OMR that option possibly rebranding of Formule 1 is best avoided for its ultra small rooms.
