I had the pleasure of staying in the Arabida Cool bungalow of Tata Coffee in early March. I had a quick extended weekend available to me so decided to do a trip to Chikmagalur along with my spouse. I booked the Plantation Trails bungalow having heard good things about their bungalows in Coorg. My idea of the weekend was to actually slow down the pace, sit back and relax. The booking process was hassle free and I did a 100% upfront payment via NEFT. I got a prompt confirmation email and the booking was done uneventfully. The tariff was pretty decent as I would have needed to pay as much as 3 times more if I had gone for a place one level up in that area. The drive to the hotel involves a dirt road for the last 2-3 kms but it is a private road so no issues. I was able to drive over in my sedan which has a lesser than usual ground clearance with no issues. The bungalow is set in midst of their coffee plantation and is a welcome change for city dwellers. We arrived at the bungalow in the first half itself and the team was perfectly happy to check us in early with no hassels or extra charge. The staff was very welcoming and immediately served us with refreshing lime juice as we waited for the rooms to get prepared for our early check in. We waited no longer than 10 mins before our rooms were ready. I had booked a Heritage room which was a spacious room with 3 beds and clean bathroom. The bungalow is a 100+ year old one and you can feel the charm of its heritage through the period furniture as well as other fittings. It is certainly no modern hotel set up and I would not expect it to be too. Besides the room, you also have a nice sit out in the foyer where you can lounge reading up magazines which are put there or sip a cup of coffee or just do nothing but watch mountains in the distance. The staff at the bungalow prepare all 3 meals for you if you want to have at the bungalow. My recommendation is to have your meals at the bungalow for two reasons: (1) it will be bit of a drive to go to nearest restaurant (2) the food cooked is very nice and feels very homely As I said, don't expect a hotel kind of set up which goes for food too. There is no buffet spread but instead you can tuck in a proper meal which is piping hot and fresh off their stove. It goes without saying, we loved the food there. Since the bungalow is not a resort so you don't have 50 different things to do but yes, you do have a badminton court, some swings for kids and plenty of space to walk amongst the coffee plantations. The charm of the place is actually settling down in the foyer or the garden, enjoy the sunset, sit by the bonfire that the staff gets running for the guests and just while away the time. The only place we visited was Mullianagiri which is a half day trip and spent rest of the time in the bungalow vicinity relaxing. The fact that data connectivity is sporadic helped us in getting relaxed :) I give the place thumbs up and would happily recommend it for travelers who have the same agenda of taking it easy during their vacation.

Take the bungalow only when you can book at least 3 out of total 4 rooms. If booking single room you will feel like getting into some stranger's house. And worst part if you get the room next to sitting area- it was a joke. No view of even garden pots, can't even open window as other guests sitting right next to your door and window. Even some one burps outside , it is clearly audible to you. It's like they are all sitting in your room itself . No privacy what so ever. Only one dining table, you need to wait when the larger family is done with their dinner, and you get your chance, I wasn't lucky that night so had to have it on bed. Sitting in the balcony was almost like playing musical chair, one gets up and you get yours - my luck turned at around 12:30 midnight. Bathroom has large windows next to which people keep walking - probably a laundry area. Paying huge for this ?? I would prefer to stay back at home. Again book only when you book all rooms and never for a single room . If you book the entire bungalow - it could be a fun experience .

A great welcome by our host. Delicious food! Wonderful views overlooking the valley. Quiet and peaceful and a very informative visit - wandering around the coffee plantation and learning about the process from plant to coffee bean. Great spot to resume our cycle trip.

Go to this place if you want to disconnect from the world and connect closely to the nature. Best place to relax as you don't get anything to do but just eat, sleep and go for a nature walk. Tip: get up early, seat under the tree infront of the bungalow and listen to the chirps from the birds.

Excellent place if you are looking for peace and tranquility. Good accommodation and food. The service is also very good, especially enjoyed the trek inside the heavily wooded coffee estate. Birders paradise but clicking them is a challenge due to lack of sunlight and thick canopy. Enjoyed my stay and would recommend it to nature lovers.
