Before I begin my review of the property itself, I thought it might be helpful to set out some thoughts about Kerala after the terrible floods they experienced. We did think about cancelling our visit but having checked with all the accommodation and a local contact, we decided to go ahead. We're so glad we did. Although the damage to the roads and some infrastructure was clear to see during parts of our trip, the people are working really hard to rebuild and we had no problem travelling anywhere we went. Please check by all means but don't be afraid to visit. We had the best holiday, meeting the most gracious and friendly people wherever we went. Now Dewalokam.. We spent 3 nights here during a 10 day visit to Kerala. It really was a little piece of Keralan heaven. The hosts, Jose and Sinta, were wonderful and so helpful, as were their delightful staff. The room was very pleasant, immaculately clean and with everything we needed, including a huge and very comfortable bed, to ensure a relaxing stay. We loved sitting reading on the upper terrace in the early evening overlooking the pool and gardens. The food really was the best we ate in Kerala. All meals were provided, prepared to our taste by their chef. I watched him cook each evening and hopefully managed to pick up some tips. Breakfast included their homemade buffalo milk yoghurt and organic honey from the farm. Yum! However it was the peace and tranquility of the place that made it so special for us. The filtered, natural pool was delightful to swim in. We also enjoyed the tour of the farm and the walk to the waterfall and the local village. If you are looking for something different, and want to recharge your batteries, then we would highly recommend Dewalokam. Thank you all for a perfect 3 days. xx

The family are wonderful...know just how to look after guests without being intrusive. The mealtimes are special as each time you sit at a large table (outside in the evenings) with your fellow guests....a great houseparty feel with such great hospitality There is a lot to do on the estate...visits to see bats...different walks...swim in either the river or pool hammocks and sun beds...wonderful ground with the largest butterflies I have ever seen...huge. We had a room outside the main building and it was lovely to sit and relax on the verandah. This is an atmospheric place that can't really be explained....it just needs a visit..!! The only minus point...is the awful sunbeds...but that is India for you. The owners care and attention makes up for any minus poings

We had a fantastic 12 days in India but the one thing that my boys (11 and 13) loved more than anything else was swimming in the river at Dewalokam with Paul! They are very keen that if we ever come back to India Dewalokam is on the agenda and I am entirely with them. Such a lovely relaxing place, beautiful food and lovely people. Joses spice walk was fascinating and we loved seeing the fruit bats. Our room was very comfortable and eating outside in the evening with the coloured lights twinkly was really special. Ive already cooked the chicken curry from the cookbook but I cant live up to the standards we tasted there. Many thanks to all the family for making us feel so very welcome and looked after

This was a remarkably good place to stay for a couple of days. The best parts were - (1) the activities laid on by the homestay free of charge - touring the farm and garden and seeing all the different foods being grown; a walk through the forest and seeing a huge colony of fruit bats; the walk through the rubber plantation to the nearby village; the morning yoga sessions (2) the food which was absolutely superb, as well as having the opportunity to watch it being prepared and ask the chef questions (3) the property which is very well kept and cared for -the gardens are lovely and the rooms are clean and comfortable. (4) the hosts Jose and Sinta who were knowledgeable, charming and really took care to talk to all their guests and make sure everyone was happy and knew about the activities available (4) Our kids really enjoyed swimming in the river as well... there's a good pool too. This is a perfect place to spend a few days to relax and we felt we would have enjoyed another night or two. If we are in Kerala again we will definitely come back!

We stayed for three nights and enjoyed everything about it. The hosts (and daughter Tara although we didnt meet Paul), the food, the peace, the trips - I could go on. It is simply a beautiful place with many things to do, if you wish to participate, which will enrich your holiday in and understanding of Kerala. We experienced the spice walk, milking a cow, rubber tapping, village walk including tuk-tuk ride, yoga, raft riding, bats at dusk.... I could go on. This was a very special part of our holiday and those who own it really mind if you have a good time!
