I booked two rooms at the Spice Fort over two months ago, however 10 days before the reservation date, the hotel cancelled my reservations due to their overbooking. No explanation has been given for why they overbooked and why my reservation was cancelled at such short notice.

Wonderful hotel in Fort Kochi. Lovely old Portuguese colonial building. Lovely breakfast provided and the staff were courteous and friendly. Having a pool was fantastic. The room was incredibly well appointed. Very trendy and modern. I would highly recommend this hotel for a stay in Fort Kochi.

The location is great (princes street) close to all the sites worth visiting. The room is spacious enough and well decorated. However, the swimming pool is small and the surroundings are cheap and not very welcoming. The breakfast is average. The restaurant in general is a bit dull. The staff is good, but can make mistakes ( one of them knocked on our door 1.5 hour earlier than planned in the morning).

We all agree that it`s a great location with obliging staff and my advice would be to get one of the more expensive rooms, not the standard poolside room which we found pretty disappointing. I had spent a lot of time choosing this hotel, looking for a break after our hectic tour of Southern India Reading the reviews it seemed that this hotel had been taken over by the Dune Eco Group and renovated but the renovations were apparently fairly cursory with the red paint pretty much faded to pink, ancient bathroom fittings and weird room setup. Our bathroom door included a loose panel with gaps round it that obviously didn`t happen yesterday. I know they push the eco thing but really it seems more about cost cutting with toiletries consisting of body wash and shampoo in small glass bottles that were refilled. I really don`t like glass bottles in the shower and was afraid I might drop them trying to shake out the contents and we hoped the water supplied in large glass bottles was well and truly treated. The room setup was really strange, and the walk around bed certainly wasn`t best use of the space in the quite well sized rooms. The large board containing the tv at the foot of the bed did give privacy from the window but the cupboard in the narrow gap between the bed and bathroom behind necessitated a torch for finding things in the suitcase. The pool was nice and clean but the area is pretty unwelcoming. The loungers were the type I`d owned in the 90s and looked about that age, sagging badly and with large gaps and no comfy foam pads We arrived on a Friday and breakfast was buffet with little choice and really stale pastries Monday it became table service with made to order eggs, fresh toast and the famous coconut crepes. We enjoyed the food at Saffron Restaurent and had a couple of good meals there. The main drawback was the fact it didn`t open til 7.30 in the evening while the extensive (on the street) foodcourt round the corner and the nearby restaurents were open most of the time Quite a mixed bag and I assume one day it will get a proper upgrade as the location couldn`t be better.

The hotel couldn't be in a better location, close to the Chinese Nets and the centre of the old town. The rooms are fine, with free wifi. The breakfast is good, and the staff and management are delightful.
