This is a lovely place, a heritage hotel. The rooms are small compared to what was on the website and they acknowledged it. The service was horrendous, especially at breakfast. There was just one waiter who hovered only over the whites in the room !!! This not acceptable under any circumstances in modern day India. The air-conditioning in the room sounded like steam engine ... all night. The dosa quality poor and unacceptable. And this in south India !!! Forget the internet. It doesn't work. This is the second hotel on this trip where I encountered bedbugs!!! Unacceptable. This alone brings down my rating for this hotel.

We had one night in the hotel which was central and charming with a huge room which was comfortable with good aircon. Staff were helpful apart from when it came to the Wi-Fi problems mentioned in other reviews. Its still very bad. The breakfast buffet was disappointing with stale croissants and limited hot food. The pool was lovely but very few sun-loungers. I had a massage at the spa which was sparsely decorated, loud radio music and bright lights- really awful ambiance. The massage itself was pretty good. Overall it was fine for one night.

The colonial style building is spacious, beautiful and well maintained and situated within the erstwhile Jewish district, near a lot of popular tourist attractions. The grounds are green and luscious with many mature, interesting trees and a lily pond. There is also a swimming pool that the birds seemed to frequent more than the guests. Mosquitos were an issue while sitting outdoors. The Arabian sea is right across the street, but the strip of beach is dirty and crowded with hawkers of various kinds and local tourists checking out the iconic Chinese fishing nets. The rooms were clean and spacious with interesting names but I was disappointed that the wifi was slow and erratic. The breakfast buffet was ok. Did not try any other meal.

My husband had a business meeting in Kochi, as a stopover during an otherwise family and holiday trip to India, so I chose a hotel that looked nice to hang out in, since hed be gone all day and I just wanted to relax rather than run around being a tourist. The Tower House website showed a lot of really lovely common spaces, which was the reason I chose it; to have a pretty and historic room to lounge in with a book. While our own room was huge, comfortable, and beautiful, the common areas were too hot and stuffy to use. I ended up staying in my (air conditioned) room to avoid the heat. That was disappointing, because the place is beautiful. Also, each day, the late afternoon, they burned a ton of incense to keep the mosquitos at bay. The whole place was so thick with incense that we had to retreat into our room just to breathe. Also, the room wasnt yet ready when we arrived, although we didnt have to wait terribly long. But after a flight and a grueling drive, its a drag to have to wait around at all. The breakfast buffet was fine... my husband, who is Indian, was very happy with the selection of South Indian breakfast items. The coffee was good, and hot milk for it was a nice touch. My husbands biggest complaint about the hotel was the WiFi, which was next to nonexistent. Since he was there on business, it was very annoying for him. We had to re-log in over and over, and mostly got connection only when we were in the lobby, near the check-in desk. So dont go if youre going to need dependable WiFi.

Tower House is perfectly located in Fort Kochi, accessible by walking or auto to everything you need in town. The hotel is in a beautiful heritage building that has been well restored and not renovated to obscurity as you often see. Service is basic, but friendly. Rooms are large and the pool is lovely. With a few upgrades (some paint and thorough cleaning), this place will shine. But, I happen to love it's no frills vibe.
