The Villa is really nice. However there are caveats. There are 3 villas in the compound while saffron shows misleading pictures of just the one villa. Making it seem like the only one there. They also ask you to misrepresent the fact that this Villa is booked through them because of some issue. Basically they ask you to lie about the fact that you booked through them. The location of the villa as per saffron's website and Google maps is incorrect. When this was pointed out to them, they gave some excuses about Google being inefficient and not updating the correct location. The Villa is not in a place where you can step out for a walk. We booked it assuming we could take strolls from the villa but you're actually stranded once you're there. It's in a little village and surrounded by thin lanes you can't take your car in beyond a point. The villa and the hospitality of folks is good. The care taker is great too. The view of the tea estate is gorgeous. The amenities of the villa are questionable. I wouldn't pay as much as saffron charges its guests. Probably worth 4-5k a room. Not more. We had a pathetic experience of dealing with saffron. Came across as the kind of folks who will leave you high and dry when in trouble. You can't reach this Villa unless you have a car. Probably best to reach the owner and book through him directly instead of booking through saffron. We asked saffron for a refund after all the hassles they caused us and they said they'll get back to us in 2 days. When we followed up with them after 4 days, they said they can't refund. They had promised a partial refund when we spoke to them from the property itself. I wouldn't trust a word they say. You shouldn't transfer money to them in advance for sure. They messed up our holiday and don't have an iota of regret about it. There are great properties in coonoor. You're better off booking those instead.

When Deven from Saffron Stays told me that the Nilgiris is an underestimated holiday destination,I was still sceptical considering that we were travelling in the month of May and the south heat needs no explanation. However, what we met with was some awesome weather (we had to wear a light sweater at night), unrestricted views of the tea garden valley and a lovely, well done home. We were staying at the Ashford Estate between 26th and 29th May in a cute room on the ground floor of one of the villas. The villa is very well maintained (im a stickler for cleanliness) and the owner seems to have good taste in the way he has done up his home. Though the room was a little small, we had access to the living area and more importantly to the small garden through a window which my 6 year old son had climbed in and out of a 100 times within the first few hours and also found himself a dead, well preserved rhino beetle from the garden. So even though the caretaker readily offered us the larger room on the first floor my son flatly refused to move. The food was good but could do with a little bit of consistency (the first day they served us fruits but the second day they forgot). The staff is warm and eager to help but might get a little overwhelmed when there are large groups. Since there is not much to see in Coonoor i suggest that you just chill at the villa, watch a few movies, play a couple of games of badminton, take a short walk to the cantonment square, enjoy the lovely weather and take in the awesome views. You could spend half a day taking the toy train ride to Ketti and then grab lunch at this excellent place called Culinarium (a Saffron Stay recco). Its a must visit place if you enjoy continental food and deserts. All in all you can expect a relaxing holiday in a comfortable home away from your own!
