We landed up at Amritastanam to spend the new year weekend in Coorg. While I had read good reviews about the place and owners we didn't expect that our time spent with them would be the highlight of our trip. The estate is very well maintained and nestled in a forest hill. The rooms and guest house have a rustic charm and you get good mountain views once you step out. The meals provided, a few which prepared by Ganga had a homely taste and dessert prepared by her was delicious. But importantly, it was fascinating to know Ganga and Pradeep who were not just hospitable but really fun to to spend time with. They opened up and shared their interesting stories. In the end they are part of our trip memories as much as anything else. Now we have one strong reason to visit Coorg again apart from it's scenic beauty. Would look forward to seeing Ganga and Pradeep again.

So here's what you get: 1) Rooms: - Very close to ones in a 4-star property - well furnished, thoughtful, luxurious - Balconies open into forest within the property - one stands almost above the tallest of pines and eucalyptus - Treated with a brilliant view of the valley and melodious sounds of all kinds of birds amidst misty mornings or sunsets with brilliant breeze 2) Property: - A coffee plantation that isn't typically commercial - they haven't done away with trees to boost coffee production, hence you get a brilliant green cover all around - Amazing gradient both for a trail walk or to drive from the gate to the homes - Neat & sparkling clean all around - Fruits and vegetable garden that you can walk around, you can even contribute in form of efforts as 'karma-yoga' if it pleases you - a lot of these are a part of the food you eat here 3) Food: - Morning tea & coffee with cookies / muffins - great to wake up to with the brilliant balconies - Scrumptious and filling breakfast & dinner spread - traditional Indian and continental options coupled with fruit juices, tea, coffee, fresh cut fruits & salads Our experience: We (my wife and I) reached here on 26th Jan late afternoon and were welcomed by Mrs Ganga herself who owns and runs the show here with her husband Mr Pradip. (You can read more about them on their proprietary website) On getting a view of our room, we knew this isnt like any other homestay around. The rooms are leaps and bounds ahead! Then, there is the warmth that Gangaji & Pradipji bring in as hosts. Amazing people to talk to over a cup of tea or even over a meal. We were always taken care of - and that speaks a lot about Gangaji's background in hospitality & civil aviation. We were taken on a morning trail to the plantation terrain by Pradipji and then shown around the home grown fruits and vegetables garden too. This place definitely deserves a 5-star rating but would hold one back as a few things would be ideal to make this a consistently 5-star rated place: - DIY tea/coffee hamper in rooms with kettle, tea bags, coffee, et al - Internet connectivity (quite a few remote properties do offer decent wi-fi connection) - Activities like a collection of interesting board games (a quad bike would be fabulous here - am being overtly wishful here) However, everything said and done, we definitely are going to visit Amritasthanam again; not as a guest but to stay with the awesome hosts, to relax, unwind, garden, listen to the birds sing, maybe even learn some yoga!

We stayed here from 23rd Dec to 25th Dec as a couple. We were fortunate enough to get the booking in the last minute weekend rush. To start with, this is an awesome place to breakaway from the daily routine. Ganga madam and Pradeep sir are one of the best hosts i have ever come across so far. They will make you comfortable, so no need to worry about anything here. Pradeep sir has got a nice sense of humour and Ganga madam's attention to detail is clearly visible in each and everything here and her work is really inspiring. We thoroughly enjoyed her home made muffins. The food is home made and tasty. The view from the balcony is one of the best i have ever seen in Coorg. You can sport lot of birds here. If you are planning to go there, better reach in the day light and call Ganga madam for clear directions. The last 1.5 kms has a narrow path, but no worries as it will be a fun to drive with a bit of excitement. Thank you Ganga madam and Pradeep sir for making our stay a truly memorable one you have been really generous. ---Prabhu

Always wanted to visit Coorg, Karnataka, as I heard a lot about the place. After some basic research we decided to stay at the Amritasathanam, amazing landscape, scenic beauty and warm people. I have not seen heaven but I am sure I can call this place as beautiful as heaven. The Host Ganga made sure as if we are at home, pampered and loved in one of the most beautiful location with cozy furnishings. We thoroughly relished each and every moment here. We leave this place with best of the memories. Thanks to Ganga madam. This is the first ever review I have written, even though we have stayed in well over 100 accommodations throughout the globe. The hospitality made our journey a life time memory. Will recommend this place to anyone who loves peace and want to have a homely experience with such an awesome view of nature and more awesome hosts, made our Coorg trip unforgettable. Here you will find trees well over 500 years old. We are so happy that we chose to stay at the Amritasathanam instead of crowded Madikeri Hotels. It is really a nice place to relax and enjoyed the beautiful mountains and scenery from the each and every side of our room. View from our room and balcony cannot be described, awesome Sunset view over multiple mountain ranges. Very nice property very nicely landscaped with breath taking view throughout the day and night. From early morning coffee to Dinner, food was so aromatic that your appetite will surprise you. A MUST VISIT PLACE. We will be back for sure.and soon.
