Well, I have not stayed in this hotel recently. I stayed here looong back, that's 22 years ago and you know why I couldn't post a review then :-) . We were on an impromptu trip to Darjeeling in peak season of May. We were a group of 8 adults and 2 children (I considered 12+ years to be adult like most of the hotels). My father and his colleagues went to search some good budget hotel while we were waiting at the railway station just opposite to this hotel. They returned unsuccessful and went to check this one and came back with a huge grin that they have got 1 dormitory kind of room which would accommodate all of us. We checked in and found that it has 5 single beds, 3 clubbed together at one end of the room and one each at the left and right wall of the room barely living any space to stack the luggage or to walk. We were 3 families, 4 of us got lucky to get the 3 beds and the other families got a single bed each. Yes, you are right, it meant 2 adults and 1 child on 1 single bed. Uncles were like, accept whatever you have got. It's peak season in Darjeeling and anyway it's cold enough to cuddle in those single beds. Well, we still settled in. Bathroom was pathetic, a very small smelly cubicle. We still managed but the last nail was the food. It smelt of cockroaches eggs and we could soon spot 1 in the egg curry. By then all the ladies of the gang had enough and a bad vacation was looming in our thoughts. On inquiring further, we learnt that they were overcharging also and we were trapped. Those days the hotels used to charge on per head basis for stay and all the meals. Generally this would mean a twin sharing room and all the meals but for our case only 1 room was given which can accommodate only 5 but was shared by 10. Post lunch, we went out to meet a lady doctor there who was a relative of one of our friends. We didn't have any contact details except her name & profession. Still being a small hill station, we could find her chamber without any difficulty and when she learnt that we were staying in Kailash in such a condition, immediately arranged for our stay in another hotel from the next day. The name was Hotel Sevy. They charged us 20% less than Kailash, the rooms were spacious, well maintained with very good bathrooms. Only issue was that we had to change the rooms a couple of times because of prior booking. Later, we booked their Gangtok too but that's a different story. When we told that we will be checking out the next day, they actually tried to threaten us that they will not allow us to leave as we have told that we would be staying for 3 days. My mom and the aunties could manage that well by shouting about their pathetic room and the food. Luckily, advance payment was made for a day only and we somehow spent the night there. I could not found Hotel Sevy online but found this Kailash and am surprised.
