To start with the hotel was not upto to the mark as we expected. Though the receptionist did tell me before hand that the cab drop off point was little away... actually its an inconvenience for elderly people. Its quite a long walk and takes quite an effort if u r carrying luggage (though porters are there too). the hot water stops between 8 and 10, and no one knows why... strangely Pros: Nice big property Executive rooms have nice view staff are nice and polte Cons: The property needs a revamp Breakfast / Food is bad Approach is bad Water problems

I had asked for a Club Room (top category) with a view of the Kanchenjungha while making reservations. I was told Club Rooms were sold out and was offered an Executive Room instead. When I asked about the difference between the two categories, I was told there wasn't much difference. I was also told all rooms are mountain-view. The ordeal began when we realised that no cars go up to the hotel. One has to get off at Bhanu Bhavan and get hold of a porter and walk to the hotel. While this may be common practice for hotels in the Mall area, it would have been helpful had this been mentioned at the time of booking. It would spare customers much harassment as all calls to the hotel had gone unanswered. On reaching the hotel, the room we were provided was unsatisfactory. There was an apology of a view from the room. There was no privacy at all as a large window on the ground floor looked out on a garden. The immediate view on the garden side was of a drain. As I walked into the washroom and opened the lid of the commode, I was in for a rude shock. I walked out disgusted and immediately called up the reception. The first reaction was of disbelief. A housekeeping staff was later sent to the room to clean the washroom. For dinner, I ordered rice, dal and fish fry for my 2-year-old daughter and 2 plates of grilled fish with toast and butter and soup for my husband and me. I was feeding my daughter when our food was brought to the room around 9.30pm and did not think it necessary to check. I also thought keeping the foil cover on would keep the food warm. When we sat down to eat around 11pm after putting my daughter to sleep, we discovered there was only one plate of fish, the bread was untoasted, there was no butter and not a single spoon or fork. I called up the restaurant and room service and there was no response. I then called up the reception, someone (who I later came to know is Mr Lalchand Lama) picked up the phone and was most annoyed that I had woken him up from sleep. He also asked me why I had not told the restaurant earlier as if It was my mistake. After much argument, a housekeeping boy came to the room and gave us first one spoon and then another. When I called up the reception again, I could hear the receiver being picked up and voices on the other side but no one responded. Earlier in the evening I requested a room service guy to get my daughter's feeding bottles sterilised. He promised to send someone but no one came despite a reminder and at 10pm the service closed, phone went on ringing and the bottles remained unsterilised for the night. The nightmare ended the next morning when we moved to Sinclairs, where we had a lovely stay. At 6k plus for a night, the hotel is very very overpriced.
