The location is around 90 km from Ahmedabad. Its a peaceful place with antique items on display at the hotel. Being off season the hotel doesnt have much of the activities operational. The cottage is place to stay.

We arrived at this hotel after a long drive of 8 hours. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Our room was basic but nice, with clean bathroom. The hotel needs a few improvements and a little refurbishment is also necessary, but it has to be said that we went in August, which is low season. For instance, there is a swimming pool, but it was empty and it looked like it had not been used for a long time. We had 2 meals there (dinner and breakfast) which were both good. Our stay was overall relaxing, but with a few improvements it could have been better.

The Royal Safari has developed a property on the edge of the desert into a lovely green oasis. The property is vast, and the rooms are spacious, with a patio for sitting outside in the shade. They were not up to the standard of cleanliness that we are used to in Canada. The buildings and the layout are very attractive. The buffet food was excellent. The internet service is in the lobby. Our package with Kalypso Birding included the Safari's excursions to the Little Rann of Kutch. That was our reason for staying there, and the driver, although very limited in English, wanted us to see as much as possible, and we saw a lot in our two days there. As it is undoubtedly the reason for many to book in at the Royal Safari, I have included some photos of birds that we saw on the Little Rann of Kutch that don't duplicate photos that other travellers have already submitted.

Comprised of basic little shacks. Not much in room equipment (no safe, hairdryer etc) Ours consisted of ill fitting doors and windows and non working are conditioning, very noisy but ineffective. Took a while to get someone to fix the aircon who took a long time. It packed up again after a few hours! Large 'open bathroom with slipper tiled floors due to a water leak and a shower positioned almost over the toilet pan?! Remains of a shower the other side of the room and an overwhelming smell of 'toilet block' After a long day travelling was looking forward to using the pool. It was unusable consisting of a thick green soupy mess! Needed the water draining, a thorough clean and a filtration system. Some limited wifi available in reception. Food was homely and pretty good, but quite limited with not particulalry generous portions. Good be a really nice place with a bit of renovation and attention to detail.

We spent two nights here and it was very relaxing. Sadly the rooms were 1* only and the food was average. We enjoyed the safari, particularly the birds. The setting is ideal, such a pity the infrastructure doesn't match up.
