Great place for a rest stop. Quiet, clean, and run by a great couple. Good food as well. You can visit a local village and take a camel ride. There was a dance troupe. All and all, it was a great overnight experience.

Truly a retreat, driving up dusty roads to get to this oasis in a seeming desert. This is a beautiful property with cabanas, Mexican style (cleverly, they have beautiful fabrics spread over the thatched roofs to insure no leakage), centered around a lawn and cricket court. The rooms are comfortable, cool, and the solar power shower serves even in the a.m. hours, much to my surprise. The food seems like home-cooking, the best we had in all of India, perhaps because they cook for a limited number. The staff was attentive to a T, and the breakfast crew extremely proud of a new coffee maker where the guest can press a button and get the brew he wants -- latte anyone? It cures the impatient traveler's desire for a cuppa. Believe the coffee maker is on even before breakfast is served. We had a drinks at a bar set up on the lawn, and the service and pours were the best we had in all of India. If I were to do this trip again, I would spend two nights at this location and skip Ranthamphore Lodge and preserve. You leave feeling you have been some place extraordinary. May rural tourism pay off in incredible India!

I spent one night at this charming lodge in a very rural area. The individual cottages are quite rustic, but adequate. The food is good, the breakfast basic but with good cereals. The service is very good and friendly. The grounds are quite nice; there is even a cricket field.

Our tour group stopped here for one evening on our way from Ranthambore to Agra. Retreat is the correct name for this serene place in the valley. They had many activities and great food. The views were sweet and rural with mountains along the sides. Each couple had their own huts. This was a memorable, quiet place away from noisy India.

It was amazing to experience the Dera Village Retreat on many levels. Getting there included a bumpy ride on very rural roads and a stop at a nearby school. We met several students and their teachers. Then we arrived at the Retreat. The bungalows are free standing and beautifully appointed for such a rural area. The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom/shower area was perfect. After settling in, we were offered tea on the green. Local women did henna designs on both the women and the men's hands and arms and the staff taught us the intricacies of Cricket. Then we boarded camel drawn carts for a visit to the Meena Tribe's village where we participated in a celebration and toured the area. Back at the retreat viewed a wonderful traditional dance presentation followed by a plentiful and tasty dinner. Our guide explained that this retreat is result of several travel companies and India attempting to bring tourism to rural areas. It is truly off the beaten path and a very worthwhile opportunity to meet unique people and learn about their beautiful culture.
