We had very good experience in Kora House. Location is excellent. It is walking distance from Dalai Lama Temple . Main market is close by. View from balcony of Kora house is awesome, you can see the clouds floating up from Dharamshala and beautiful sunset. The host Rohitash is very helpful and the caretaker Suraj makes yummy tea. Rohitash is a good host. All facilities of a home are available. Kitchen is fully equipped. Washing machine is there. We were a family of four and stayed for one month. Our stay was very relaxing and comfortable. Wi-Fi is quite fast . 1

Advantages : - Wonderful location. - Owner rohitash is wonderful person. He has build this place with lots of love and care for tourist. - he has hand drawn map of surrounding places to visit and food options available for guests and explains it with great detail which is highly appreciable. - very safe and peaceful place Take care : - You need to climb 2-3 floors ..so note for it. - be careful if you have naughty child...as no high fencing or grill in balcony and surrounding area.

If you are planning a visit to Dharamshala, it makes sense to stay in McLeod Ganj as this will offer you a slightly secluded stay as well as impressive views of the valley (McLeod Ganj - Upper Dharamshala - is at a higher altitude than the town per se). And for this, the Kora House is a wonderful place to put your feet up and soak in the views. A few pointers: 1. The Kora House location is enviable. There is a large common balcony where you can settle down with your plate of Maggi and see the sun set behind the mountains. It is a short walk from the Dalai Lama residence and temple and is on the Parikrama (Kora) route. 2. There are 4 large rooms (we had occupied 3 of the 4 rooms) with attached bath and a well equipped kitchen which can be accessed by all the residents through the common balcony. 3. The beds are very comfy and there are room heaters as well as electrically heated mattresses to tide over the chill - we did not need this given the fact that we were there in the last week of April. The linen is very clean and comfy. 4. The bathrooms are equipped with geysers and necessary fittings. The stay comes with a hand-wash in each bathroom and clean towels. You will have to carry all other toiletries that you need. 5. A washing machine is available but for a charge. 6. Rohitash is a nice guy to deal with. In fact he was there to welcome us and stayed the night just to ensure we had a comfortable stay on the first day. 7. There is place to park 3 cars at a max. The approach is a steep n narrow (like all roads there) but comfortable. 8. You could discuss with Rohitash on the moving-around plans and he will guide you well. He can also arrange cars for moving around. Even if you have your own car, I would suggest hiring a car (small car like an Alto) with a driver to navigate the narrow lanes and manage the parking issues. 9. Suraj, the caretaker, is pretty helpful though he stays on only till evening. I wish there was a caretaker who was always present we certainly felt so. 10. The house is at a height that needs to be navigated on foot after parking the car approx. 40 ft high about 4 floors. This is a good exercise for folks who are moderately fit but if you have members who cant climb stairs, you would need to reconsider. 11. The place could do with (a) a large dressing mirror in the bedrooms, (b) an exhaust fan in the bathrooms and (c) maybe a table/pedestal fan in the bedrooms. 12. Like I mentioned earlier, the location is fabulous! It is far from the madding crowd and at the same time, a short walk from the main town market/square. 13. Last but not the least, please call up Rohitash if you are driving up to Kora House and adhere to his instructions. There are 2 routes to reach the place one, a steep, very challenging drive through the city and two, a more relaxed drive through the cantonment area. Despite Rohitash advising us to take the latter route, we completely missed it and had to drive through a real BAD stretch even for an experienced driver like me, this is one experience I will not want to repeat!! 14. All in all, the Kora House is a fantastic place to calm your city nerves! The place is very comfy, the host is super helpful and the views just out-of-this-world! Thanks, Rohitash (and Ashish) for a fantastic 3 days at McLeod Ganj/Dharamshala. We loved every moment of it!

I stayed here for 4 nights in September 2017 at the end of my trip in India. It was perfect for what I was looking for - peaceful and calm, away from the hustle and bustle, yet close enough to town to be able to walk (5-10 minutes). The room was comfortable and clean, hot water no problems, and the balcony/verandah afforded the best views of the valley and mountains. The host Rohitash has prepared a comprehensive guide including a very handy map, to nearby sights, restaurants and places to visit, and was at Kora House to greet me when I arrived very early in the morning. Rohitash was accessible and helpful throughout my stay. This is a guest house with a caretaker during the day, not a hotel, so you really feel you are part of the community. Suraj the caretaker makes arguably the best chai in town, and the kitchen is available to guests to make food as they wish. Meals can also be prepared by Suraj if advised in advance. You are right on the Kora, so each time you leave the house and come home again you are walking the Kora - a very special experience. As a solo female traveller, I felt completely safe here even walking home after dark.

We booked ourselves at Kora House in the month of May for 3 nights. It was a comfortable stay with a brilliant view. Everytime one walks out to the balcony, you can enjoy the serene mountains and absolute peace. This is located next to the monastery, so all the more imperative to maintain silence as monks walk up. Also, to reach Kora House one has to walk uphill and climb a fleet of stairs. Hence, if you traveling with kids and elderly people, try another venue for accommodation. The rooms were comfortable with amenities like - washing machines, floor fans, fridge, cupboards. There are no TV's in the room, which is an option we enjoyed a lot. Please note this is more like a comfortable homestay, hence do not compare it to the regular hotel stays. There is a caretaker, who serves breakfast (if informed earlier) and cleans the room, whenever you request. You can ask for fresh towels and bed sheets and the caretaker shall provide. So this is more like a backpackers heaven, than a requirement for a family. What we loved was the view and absolute peace, making our holiday perfect. For booking the room you need to call the owners or write to them and they shall do the needful (if rooms are available). When we reached out for bookings, the owners seemed too intrusive with a long list of questions. Also, one of the owners / manager was around during our stay and was constantly bugging us with his questions or information. They should avoid being so intrusive and offer services only if guests need it. Overall, great view, simple home cooked meals and pretty affordable.
