Varada Homestay is a very good place and more like a rented apartment. It is actually situated right at the start of Dharamshala. Please be mindful that the suite is situated on the top floor of a 3-storey building and there is no lift, so one has to climb up stairs. The rooms is very charming and beautifully decked up. The add on the the beauty, there is a swimming pool that offers a view of the majestic mountains. We faced a little problem with food as there are not many food options available near the place and one has to go to the main Dharamshala market to enjoy good food. Overall, it was a good experience staying here. Amit, the person who takes care of this property is very helpful guy and will do his best to cater to your needs.

worst experience of my life ...... at varada homestay... as we had booking through guesthouser & we paid full amount already to guest houser. & guesthouser was also paid to varada homestay before our arrival at his(mr. beeraj) property. but when we were checkout from his property suddenly he said that you guys can not check out bcs i have not received amount from guesthouser. so on the spot we called to huest houser's toll free no. & discussed with them & thay said that guesthouser has already paid your stay amount to owner mr. Bheeraj. but mr. bheeraj said no i have not recieved any amount from guesthouser & it will not possible for me to check my another bank accounts today so you guys have to pay 2100/- INR directly to me before to leave. after long arguments & with seeing his rude behaviour of mr. bheeraj & his staff we paid them 2100/- INR cash on the spot & than he said i will transfer this amount on monday to your account. now around two months is over & now he is not picking our phone some time he said ki you guys damaged my crockery so i will not pay any single money to you. so to all of you it's my humble request that pls avoid his property because as we heard about him from locals also that he always try to cheat to client for extra money with different different reason.

Positive - Very very well behaved owner and other staffs. Got an entire floor with open terrace, rooftop and swimming pool. Excellent decor and room size is appropriate for a group of 4. Very well maintained, clean rooms and facilities. Nice view of mountain and Dharamshala town, cricket stadium Negative - food is costly and there are no other options nearby because the location is odd... Hot water connection needs correction...hot water was coming from both cold and hot line but they corrected it when we complained.

I stayed here for three nights in September 2016. The room itself is huge and furnished with modern touches. It is on the top floor of the building and it is the only unit in the building for guests. It can easily accommodate a couple, and there are sleeping places for up to four people to fit comfortably. The staff were super friendly and very eager to accommodate my needs. As a solo traveler, I would have preferred to stay someplace closer to MacLeodGanj and upper Dharamsala. Varada Homestay is about a half hour taxi ride (Rs. 300 one way) from upper Dharamsala. There aren't really any restaurants or cafes or other tourist / traveler hangouts near the property. Since I came to this area to volunteer short term in MacLeodGanj, I was unable to continue to stay here, because the commute back and forth would have been too much to bear. That being said, for travelers who do not want to stay in upper Dharamsala, or who don't mind waiting 10-15 minutes for a cab to come to Varada and then another 30 minutes or so to get to the upper area, this place is an excellent choice that I can highly recommend. There is no restaurant on site, so when I wanted dinner, the staff had to order take out for me. I appreciated that they did this, however a restaurant on site or even nearby would have been great. The area also didn't seem to have any food shops nearby, although truth be told I can't be sure because I didn't walk around at all. The room itself was spotless and featured a huge king sized bed, a nice shower with plenty of hot water, western toilet, refrigerator, two big seating areas, sweeping views over lower Dharmsala, and plenty of closet space. Also there was a flat screen TV with satellite. Wifi was available, but I personally found the speed to be way too slow, so I just used my own cellular data. At night, it was quiet, save for the occasional chorus of barking dogs. During the day time, there was a fair amount of ambient noise coming from the busy road on which the property is located. I think if you're considering staying here and you have any concerns or questions based on my review, you should contact the property and I am sure they will do everything in their power to accommodate you to the best of their ability. Sunny and Boby and the other staff I met were really kind and wonderful, and I am grateful to them!
