Dibrugarh, situated on the southern banks of the River Brahmaputra, is a city in the state of Assam. What tourists like the most about Dibrogarh are its tea gardens, temples and shopping areas. Among several places to visit in Dibrugarh, the Dehing Satra, a monastery, is the most prominent one. This monastery received patronage from kings like Lakhi Singha, Rajeswar Singha and Gaurinath Singha. Some other monasteries in the region are the Dinjoy Satra, Moderkhat Satra, Garpara Satra and Koli Aai Thaan.
While on a Dibrugarh tour, travellers can also visit different maidams or graveyards. Barbarua Maidam consists of two big graveyards, which according to Sarbananda Rajkumar, a noted historian, are of Deka Dihingia Barbarua and Bura Dihinigia Barbarua. The Bahikhowa Maidam is another graveyard that was erected for the army chief of Ahom, Bahikhowa Dasarath Dowerah Borphukan. Two of the other maidams are Lekai Chetia Maidam and Sarumechlow & Bormechow Maidam.
Dibrugarh sightseeing also includes exploring Raidongia Dol and Bezor Dol. The dol's walls have 14 statues, which earlier were 24. Further, there is a pond that is adjacent to the dol. According to a belief, the pond was given to Raidnogia Barua as dowry when he married Swargadeo Pramatta Singha’s sister.
On a trip to Dibrugarh, tourists must not forget to visit shopping streets and buy a souvenir to take back home. During their tour, they should also relish dishes famous in the city and explore the vibrant culture of Dibrugarh. All this and more make a trip to Dibrugarh a memorable one.
