What a great place! Chris Lucas is a genial and welcoming host and the staff are versatile, friendly and totally efficient. The food was excellent and plentiful and the pool was a welcome refuge after a days sightseeing or walking. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

My son and I spent a few days in Cardamom house and left feeling rejuvinated and happy after a relaxing and memorable stay. It is located on a hillside over looking a monsoon lake surrounded by high hills that give a dramatic backdrop. It is peaceful and quiet with only the sounds of nature to enjoy; a perfect antidote to the busy cities of South India. The food is excellent and inspired by a wealth of local spices, fruits and vegetables. Cardamoms chef prepared some of the best meals we had on our trip; even the whiskey marmalade is homemade (made to a secret recipe). Meals can be eaten on a verandah overlooking a beautiful garden with the monsoon lake beyond. The location whilst in a quite area tucked into the hills is easily accessible as there is a good road to Madurai. There are plenty of opportunites for walking, hiking and enjoying nature on the doorstep. Further afield one can take trips to a local village the impressive fort at Dindigul, the temples of Madurai and of course the hillstations of the Western Ghats. My son arrived feeling unwell due to a bug he had picked up and the Cardamom team could not have been nicer making him special drinks and food to soothe him; he was back on his feet the next day. The bedroooms are a good size and beds very comfortable; my 63 son had the best nights sleep of his trip (especially as his feet did not dangle over the end of the bed). The pool is refreshing and has its own space in which to sunbathe, read or just to take in the amazing views. Chris the owner is a true gentleman and gave us great travel tips and advice and also has many an interesting story to tell. He set up Cardamom house from scratch and it is a fascinating account as it is such an impressive achievement. We were sad to leave and felt that we had made good friends with Chris and his team in the short time that we spent there. We will be back for sure and this time will spend longer to explore more of this beautiful region.

cardamom house is a rustic home stay offering comfortable surroundings in an inclusive atmosphere. Chris, a retired English doctor, built the place himself ( with help) and he still runs it. The food is excellent, both plentiful and very tasty, and there are 6 staff to carry out all the services. A very peaceful location, with a beautiful swimming pool. We thoroughly recommend a stay

My wife and I ended 16 days of travel in the south of India with three days at Cardamom House. While there, we felt as though we were weaving ourselves deeper into the fabric of the country than at any previous point. The site is magnificent and remote, the accommodations old-fashioned and comfortable, and the staff composed of six local men who are, in a good way, more like family than hotel staff. We can't think of a better way to have ended our time in a most marvelous country.
