Surrounded by the Sahyadri Ranges, Durshet is a village in Maharashtra. The lush green forests and the vast flora and fauna make the place an ideal tourist destination for nature lovers. Nature presents itself in its best form at Durshet with its vast forest coverage and the sparkling Amba River flowing across it. A Durshet tour proves to be refreshing for tourists who want a break from the city's hustle-bustle and spend some time with their loved ones in a quiet environment.
Durshet is a perfect blend of serenity and adventure. The calmness of the forests, that are still mostly unexplored and unexploited, cools the minds of the visitors. The village also offers activities like river crossing, rappelling, rock climbing and jungle safari, apart from the usual trekking and trudging.
Durshet overlooks a magnificent view of the Sahyadri Ranges, bathed in greenery. A stroll through the exuberant forests is a perfect way to relax the mind and body. The forests have a wide variety of beautiful birds. Butterflies extracting nectar from flowers is another common sight here. Durshet attractions include the huge natural waterfalls originating from the river Amba, which are a treat to the eyes during monsoons. Trekking through these falls is a unique experience that tourists can enjoy.
A number of temples are found in the region around Durshet. They include the Varad Vinayak Temple and the Astavinayaka Temple (Balleleshvara). The peculiar 'nandadeep' has been burning continuously inside the Varad Vinayak Temple since 1892 AD. The deity at Balleleshvara is clothed like a brahmin and has diamonds fixed in the eyes and the navel. An idol of a rat holding a modak is placed on the outer sanctum, which adds to the beauty of the shrine.
