What's Good: The overall experience was good, the only challenge was you have to take the steps to reach the hotel (no vehicular access to the entrance of hotel, you have climb stairs) and even in the hotel even though its a 4 storey, there is no elevator. Otherwise the experience was good.

Oyo Oak Ridge Retreat Gangtok

Sincere request to travellers, Do Not book this hotel ever. Sorry I have nothing positive to say. Worst food, terrible access to Hotel, slippery bathroom floor. We were supposed to stay for 5 nights but checked out in 2 nights itself. Please don't go by the photos of hotel.

I usually dont trust hotels taken over or merged with big brands names. I thought the same for Oak Ridge Retreat and had expected it to be below average/shabby and not so impressive. To add to my misery was the long flight of stairs that you need to mount to reach the hotel. Adding another pain point was our room on 3rd floor for which we had to mount more stairways. I was exhausted by the time I reached the hotel. But the moment the door of the room was thrown open, my fatigue vanished. The room was nicely done in subtle hues with pop of bright colors. The spacious, well-lit space instantly perked me up. The electric kettle in the room was a saviour! From the decor of the room and wi-fi connectivity to the friendly quick staff, Oak Ridge won my heart. The manager (Shubroto) is a true gentleman, ready to help and advise you whenever you would need. Power cut is a major issue in the area. (Invertors dont work for long hours). Make sure you plugin surge charge protector before charging your gadgets. I did not find the buffet breakfast great. Chickpeas is a staple food there and I am not very fond of chickpeas, that too in breakfast. Plus the staff needs to be a little proactive in paying attention to hygiene, especially to the rooms used for storage. Rest everything was nice. My five night stay was extremely comfortable and value for money. Thank you Oak Ridge Team for a good hospitality.
Terrible hotel with poor accomodtion facilities and food

There is no parking and need to walk down for 5 mins from main road. It could be difficult for disabled and old aged travellers to reach the hotel. Local boys who may or may not have completed 5 th standard are receptionist on counter and they will welcome you. Rooms are big but you need to ask 10 times to room service for mug, towel, soap, to turn on geaser and TV. Dont get surpised if these servents ask you for breakfst at 1: 00 PM in the night. This could be there way of hospitility. About wifi, yes so called wifi facility is there. Breakfast timing is not fixed, it is wriiten that timing is at 7 : 00 am, these people start gathering material at 8:00 am so you can imagine. Room contain bed bugs. Food is of poor quality and expensive. No room service, no hospitality. This is not at all descent hotel and dont prefare for honeymoon.
Bad experience at Hotel Oak Ridge Retreat
by jsawant1232 on
Sorry to say but we had a very bad experience at Hotel Oak Ridge. It started the moment we checked in. I had booked a Suite with balcony for four people. We were shocked to learn that such a suite is non existent in the hotel. The suite (obviously without balcony was right in middle of a busy lobby and to our horrifying surprise the door to suite had one inch gap at the bottom large enough to bring in all the noise from the lobby to keep us half awake during the night. The manager then shifted us to two separate rooms which were a little better but not to the mark. Small things such as power plugs, lights taps were not working. The room had a tea maker but alas no place to operate it and no sugar and milk to prepare tea. The list is unending...

Great view from most of the rooms! Discuss what kind of food you like with the cook before ordering..

choose the rooms with the ones facing away from the market for a majestic view. If you dont get one...you can always stare at the hordes of people passing by and thronging the market- MG Marg.
