I stayed at Cancio's House in the monsoon of 2018 for 3 memorable days. In my experience, a rare few places that categorise themselves as homestays actually live up to the concept of welcoming travellers into their hearts and homes. Roberto and Raquel Amaral are the rarest breed of hosts I've ever come across, attentive and warm, always sharing a joke, recommendations, INSANELY good food and the rest of their family with a bright smile on their faces. Their three boys snuck into my heart after an afternoon of discussions on Marvel superheroes while we had lunch around their cozy indoors dining table. Their dogs Jess, Doughnut and Simba and the cat Husky + their mothers Mamai and Avo all came together and became family in such little time. Roberto was instrumental in helping me experience the small town joys and wonders of Aldona village, pushing me to explore parts of it no guidebook would mention. I've found myself a home and a large-hearted family in Goa, and I can't wait to go running back to them :)

One of the best homestays we have ever experienced. The gracious hosts Roberto and Raquel made sure we got to see the quaint, authentic and culturally rich side of Goa. Every bit and nook of their home has a story to tell and what's more the place is ensconced in nature that simply fills the heart with peace and quiet...a must visit!

In case u looking for a home away from home in goa, it has to be Cancios house. This is an Portuguese house which has the perfect ambience for a home stay. We had been to Cancios house in April and had a wonderful experience. The host (Roberto and Raquel) and their 3 wonderful children along with Mrs Amaral are the perfect hosts. The food was wonderful and awesome. Raquel is a wonderful cook and we tasted some of the wonderful pork delicacies and we got to sample some of the most delicious brownies . The best part is u get to know more about Goa and its culture. there is much more to goa than it's coastline and Cancios is a perfect way to explore it. Roberto has lots and lots of stories to tell and will keep you entertained. Don't miss the puffs from the nearby bakery.

Cancio, Amaral, Roberto, Raquel... call them by any name but one thing's for sure - you show up to a (real) home away from (your own) home. There are so many thoughts racing through my mind, perhaps I'll start with the graciousness of the hosts: the Moms, R&R, their most adorable kids and ofcourse, Doughnut and Dusky... Its one big family, and guests become part of it. Walk in and out of the house, nose around in the (always accessible) kitchen, play with the kids, lounge around with a book+coffee, meet like-minded guests and family members or go for a leisurely stroll - anywhere... get lost (i did) and everyone around seems to know of them. After all, they've been a mainstay of the area for 500 yrs. Raquel is a master chef, churning out great meals/goodies on the go. Roberto is the resident "cinderella" who loves to toil around the house/garden. Aldona is a beautful, quaint little town - very clean and serene with loads of history, i.e., enough to explore locally. The beach isn't very far either as are other goan hotspots. You'll need local transportation though and "cinderella" is there to help. Overall, a great stay, new friends and millions of lasting memories. Perfection: thy name is Cancio's House!

It is very difficult to review a place which felt like home in just a few days.We visited Cancio's House this March. We wanted to be away from touristy locations and experience the authentic Goa. . The Amarals enveloped us in their warmth and graciousness - the care they took to make us comfortable ( we had a medical emergency with our kid and the support we received from Roberto was outstanding. He was more like a family than a host). Roberto and Raquel's place has loads and loads of history. The 500-year-old rambling Portuguese house had stories for us at every nook and corner! The warmth and genuine connect we experienced is difficult to find in today's day and age . That's what sets this place apart. It was such a pleasure to walk in to Raquel's wonderful kitchen and experience her delicious authentic cooking. Her penchant for baking ensured that we got to sample some of the most delicious brownies and cakes ever. We were celebrating our anniversary on one of the days and suddenly post dinner Rachel surprised us with a wonderful cake that she had baked. There were also Harrison, Antonio and Rafael - the wonderful children at the Cancio's House. Our son was lost to us , busy playing endlessly with the kids - so much so that he started referring to Cancio's House as home . I guess that is what we all felt - it was one of the happiest holidays I have been on despite the medical emergency we faced :-)
