We stayed with the Amarals in March (2018) this year. While we usually stay in homes and villas, this stay was a different experience for us as the Amarals stay on the same property and the two rooms are an extension of the main house. We understand that there maybe another room that is sometimes available for stay. The main home is a gorgeous old Goan house. All the meals are with the family in their house. You can also eat out at many of the restaurants around neighbourhood or outside. Roberto and Raquel offer many suggestions. Naicavaddo in Aldona is away from the tourist-belt and yet accessible easily to beaches and other places by scooter or a taxi. There are many places around the village for wonderful walks. The house and its gardens are very very peaceful. Living in the same compound also gives you a glimpse into the life and rhythms of a typical day in a Goan family Roberto and Raquel manage this homestay efficiently and all the logistics for the stay. The Amarals are a lovely family for company and generously extend their genuine affection, stories, warmth, energy, tips and delicious meals cooked by Raquel. The rooms are large, well-lit and with a lovely porch looking out into a beautiful garden. In the month of March,we did not miss air-conditioning. The rooms offer amenities and furniture that make your stay comfortable and laid-back. It is very good value for the price. Taxi pick-up and drop at the airport can be arranged through Roberto. This is a lovely place to stay if you are looking for a peaceful quiet retreat.

We stayed for three days and wanted to enjoy the monsoons and stay at peace undisturbed. the place did full justice to our stay and experiences. Amaral's just went out of the way to make us comfortable. Our expectations were really low and we were surprised to the better. Great things - peaceful place, family environment, stories of all kinds, support, friendliness Good - rooms, food Not so good - mosquitoes in the room, lack of food options around the place (other than this homestay) So advice is to stay here if you are seeking a local pleasure and not a hotel stay.

To put it shortly, Cancio's House is like a home away from home. Put away those initial hesitations, because once you step into the house, Roberto, Raquel, their mothers, children and dogs will make you like family. I could manage to stay *just* 5 days in this beautiful, cozy 500-year old Portuguese house, but when I left with a heavy heart, I think even 5 months would be too less for me. Waking up to the sound of birds and raindrops and munching on fresh paos and pois combined with delicious homemade jams, and patties from the local bakery, and occasionally managing to scrape off last night's pork vindaloo was a regular way to start the day. Aldona in itself is such a beautiful place that you should take tips from Roberto and roam around the place with your vehicle. And if it's weekend time in the monsoons, then you might even get a glimpse of the Sao Joao festival by jumping into the well (and taking some 5-6 tries before you capture it on your Go Pro). Being Goans, these two sweet individuals will have all the stories about Goa's culture and heritage, and guide you to visit the best of places - things you will never find on the usual Goa itinerary. And if you're a football fan, then you'll have another partner in Mammai, who's probably gonna scream louder than you at goals, and then indulge in some more stories unless Jesse, Donut or Simba (the dogs) interrupt for attention. I can go on and on about my experiences, but as it is with experiences, you gotta live them to believe them! I just can't recommend this place enough, and I myself can't wait to go back!

I stayed at Cancio's House in the monsoon of 2018 for 3 memorable days. In my experience, a rare few places that categorise themselves as homestays actually live up to the concept of welcoming travellers into their hearts and homes. Roberto and Raquel Amaral are the rarest breed of hosts I've ever come across, attentive and warm, always sharing a joke, recommendations, INSANELY good food and the rest of their family with a bright smile on their faces. Their three boys snuck into my heart after an afternoon of discussions on Marvel superheroes while we had lunch around their cozy indoors dining table. Their dogs Jess, Doughnut and Simba and the cat Husky + their mothers Mamai and Avo all came together and became family in such little time. Roberto was instrumental in helping me experience the small town joys and wonders of Aldona village, pushing me to explore parts of it no guidebook would mention. I've found myself a home and a large-hearted family in Goa, and I can't wait to go running back to them :)

One of the best homestays we have ever experienced. The gracious hosts Roberto and Raquel made sure we got to see the quaint, authentic and culturally rich side of Goa. Every bit and nook of their home has a story to tell and what's more the place is ensconced in nature that simply fills the heart with peace and quiet...a must visit!
