With fond memories of my first stay at the guest house in the late 80s I returned for a 2nd visit. This time we stayed with several family members including two elderly parents who received a lot of caring attention from the staff. The guest house is not really wheel chair accessible, but the staff were extraordinarily helpful. The guest house is nestled in the woods in total privacy with a short walk uphill towards the beach and the Aguada Fort. The setting is spectacular with flowers and trees all around. The rooms and our suite were very comfortable and charmingly appointed. The food is excellent, and the staff made every effort to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The guest house is as unique as it was it was 30 years ago a hidden gem in one of the most beautiful parts of Goa.

Being an English girl, working in Mumbai, quite often a getaway break to a local retreat is on the cards. After extensive searching, I stumbled across the Marbella guest house whilst seeking a typical Goan experience, close to a beach. All I can say is wow - this place does not disappoint. Sajjan, the manager is one of the most attentive and efficient managers Ive experienced in india - and there have been many Indian experiences. As for the guest house, its simply magical. I stayed in the penthouse (at a very reasonable cost) and the photos do not do it justice. Its quite simply, beautiful. The decor is stunning, the bed is comfy and its very clean. The location is sublime. Quite often, we only use hotels to sleep or to swim, but as this guest house was so charming, I decided to hang out for a while and enjoy copious cups of tea whilst sitting on the terrace and enjoying the tranquility of it all. Eating at the guest house is a must. Their menu is spot on and their breakfasts are perfect. I took the opportunity to try their home made Goan curry (as recommended by a trip advisor traveller) and I can honestly say, its the best curry Ive ever eaten. Today, the chef offered to show me how it was cooked and this was such an awesome experience. So.. in summary.... a 11/10 for me. 10/10 doesnt do it justice. Service, location, food, room, ambience, attention to details... spot on. Thank you Marbella. Youve nailed it. Each and everyone of you are amazing.

As titled our stay at Marbella was almost very good. Upon arrival we were informed that the room we had booked had leaked during the rain the previous night so we were understandably moved to a different room. Of which the management kept saying we were not being charged for the upgrade. ( which was slightly irritating). However after a couple of nights we were moved to the room we had booked because it had dried out which we found slightly concerning. And alas when it rained again the room failed to keep the water out, our bed was soaked, the floor left slippery and dangerous and some of our tech was ruined. After a completely sleepless night in a wet bed we were offered a half hearted apology and moved again. Needless to say the rain not only ruined our night but also the next day due to a complete lack of sleep. Upon check out the only compensation offered was the removal of a 10% charge for paying on card....the only thing that saved our stay at Marbella was the excellent front of house staff and the talented chef who consistently produced an exceptional breakfast and meals. Marbella is a beautiful building in a good location with excellent front of house and kitchen staff, however it failed to fulfil the basic requirement of a hotel room, one of which is keeping your dry when it rains. A stronger apology or better compensation could have rectified the damage, however neither was offered.

A very different experience... Authentic Portuguese type of decor, surrounded by Green... excellent, courteous staff, walkable distance from the beach... The Marbella is located at the end of a cauldasac so it's secluded, yet very close to a lot of major areas. There was always 3 to 4 staff members on premise that would help you with anything you could possibly need (they have an amazing kitchen, and very knowledgeable of things to do in the area). The beds were very nice and the AC unit worked great.

We had a week in north Goa during our month in India and this place was lovely. We were made very welcome by Raymond and all the other staff were excellent. The room girl kept our suite spotless and the 3 lads Ashog , Nundug and Pasquale looked after catering when we ate in the Marbella and cooked to order. It is handily places for the beach and there are loads of Tuk Tuks and taxis if the walk into the town is too much. Lots of local tours available sea and river trips and loads of bars and good restaurants nearby although I would avoid the nearest Joe Joes as it was the only place we went where the service was indifferent. Local fort Aguada is easily reached by a footpath rather than the offered taxi ride. Plenty of bird watching if that interests one. Rooms are airy and have AC. And the house dog Ruby will take you for a walk if you take the path up the hill. A very pleasant stay.
