We were 3 girls visiting South Goa when monsoon was receding. We had planned a 3 day trip and staying at Panaji was plan for Day 3. This hotel is situated near the main road where all the Casinos are situated. Cafes and pubs are a walking distance from here. Staff here is courteous and really polite. They are available 24x7. The hotel is a heritage hotel and the interiors have been designed to reflect the 19th century heritage. Breakfast spread is pretty decent. Cafe Mojo is at walking distance from here. The Panaji main market is also nearby where you could go for shopping. In case you plan take some vehicle on rent, petrol pump is also nearby. We had covered most of the area on foot as everything is nearby.

Mateus is a great place to stay in Goa. The architecture of the house is very beautiful (Portuguese style) in the Fontainhas quarter. The neighborhood is safe and peaceful. The room is big and very clean. AC works perfectly. And the manager is very accommodating. I recommend it !

It was great family stay at Mateus. It is heritage home with modern fixtures, well-maintained. Rooms and bathrooms were clean. Comfortable bed and chairs. This home brings you to some old era. A low sound instrumental melodies adds pleasant soul to the peace of this house/boutique. The area around this place is preserved heritage area, you can go for a pleasant walk. I have visited various sights closeby like - Paradise Cruise, Miramar beach, Panjim Bus-stand, Salim Ali Bird Century(need to take taxi and ferry then), Goa science museum and planetarium, Dona-Paula and various popular churches. Host(Ronaldo) is quite friendly, helping, and humble. I have not tried food. No swimming pool. There is taxi/scooty rentals, petrol pump, Saib restaurant, spa centre and bakery shop around. Best place for singles or couples; while pleasant one for family. Would definitely want to visit again.

I've stayed at almost all the boutique hotels in Panjim, and this one is my favorite. Located in the Fontainhas area, Mateus is an old house restored, super cute and clean. Perfect to walk to every place that I like in Panjim, (Tataki, Down the River, Joseph's Bar, a bunch of Casinos, Kokni Canteen, Black Sheep Bistro). The smaller room are alright for a one night stay, however I'd suggest one of the bigger rooms for a longer trip. Suggestion to the hotel - Change your bed linen to comfortable duvets.

My friends and I went to Goa for a mini vacation. Our choice for accommodation in Panajim was Mateus and we were not disappointed with this renovated heritage place. Hotel Location: It's located in a perfect spot in Panajim near the church square close to the Mandovi river. There are lovely churches and cafes around the area. The Mandovi river offers activities like river cruise and casinos, which are only a 10-minute walk from the hotel. Hotel Room: The room is luxurious and comfortable at the same time. Interiors are in soothing pastel colors and maintain the overall feeling of the Portuguese architecture. Cleanliness: The room and bathroom are very clean and well maintained. Staff: The staff is courteous and respectful, and available at all times. I recommend this heritage place to anyone who visits Panajim for a mesmerising experience.
