Of the 7 places we stayed in Goa, both North and South, this was by far the best. From the moment you walk through the tropical forest to reception and Senor D'Costa books you in on his ledger, not an IPad in sight, you start to relax. The superior room we booked was worth the little bit extra. Clean, spacious, no TV, good WiFi. Nothing was too much trouble for Christhe and Mr. Wilson. The breakfast was very tasty. Lots of restaurants close by. If you turn left you walk through town with all the street vendors to get to the beach. Turn right and you get to the beach quietly with only the sight of last night's catch drying on the roadside. We only stayed 2 nights and tried to stay longer but could not cancel our next accommodation. And this is the first place that I can honestly say that the photos you see of the place do not do it justice. It is much more beautiful and serene. Great location, fantastic staff, lovely accommodation. We were sad to leave.

We stayed for several days at the Palm Grove Cottages, a family run lodging set in a beautiful garden setting. And it was not just any garden setting, it was a property where the owner had nurtured the growth of an impressive myriad of trees and plants for over 30 years and where every day workmen were out trimming plants, watering, etc. The buildings and rooms were a cut above and spotlessly clean. We slept in a massive 4-poster bed and enjoyed our small balcony with coffee table and chairs. We discovered their restaurant had excellent food and we enjoyed many meals in a peaceful, quiet setting. It was about a pleasant 20 minute walk to the beach and we found little side roads where we could walk and see Portuguese style villas and homes. We found it a relaxing place to stay and appreciated the helpfulness of all the staff.

We stayed here only 2 nights when arriving from Goa airport on our way to the South. The hotel is in a beautiful garden, which makes you feel like in an oasis. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the entire place has a very nice colonial touch. Although we did not have time to discover the surroundings, we very much enjoyed our short stopover.

Our correspondence with the owners of Palm Grove Resort prior to arriving had been very informative about how to reach the property. This advance information greatly assisted the taxi driver find the right address in the dark. Many hotels in India simply ignore email correspondence and requests, so Palm Grove got off to a very good start. As was to be expected, there were quite a few Foreigners staying at this resort. We arrived at 20:30, and greeted warmly. The setting is wonderful: verdant tropical vegetation, with a winding path leading to Reception. We were greeted warmly, and the paperwork carried out with a minimum of fuss. The rooms to which we were allocated are very attractively decorated: beautiful fabrics in blue and white, with the bathroom tiled in black and white. It is very pleasing to the eye.The beds are comfortable, with quality linen. I slept very well. The a/c works quietly and effectively. The shower in my upstairs room lacked good pressure (perhaps water was being used elsewhere when I showered), and the water not much more than lukewarm. I gather the pressure was better, and the water a lot warmer, in the downstairs rooms. If you have the time, do explore the beautiful grounds They really are rather special. Unusually, management provides a sheet with helpful instructions for reaching the beach (it's a 15 minute walk). We really appreciated this. if only that happened more often in Indian hotels. If you go to the beach at around sunrise, you will be able to watch the overnight catch being brought ashore. Management was also most helpful in organising for us a taxi to the railway station. Had we wanted to go on tours, the hotel was happy to organise these for us. We were rather surprised that the resort offered such a limited breakfast menu: fruit-juice, cornflakes, bread, tea/coffee, and freshly prepared omelette or scrambled eggs. There is nothing wrong with the breakfast, and I guess it says quite a lot about the nature of the clientele. However, i do like to be offered idli and dosa,:- dishes that are usually available in even the most modest of hostelries. Well worth considering.

The hotel is family run who have a big heart. They have cultivated plants since many years which have now grown in abundance giving a forest-like feeling. Absence of TV is a boon at the hotel which entices you to relax and unwind.
