What's Good: The hotel was overall good but the hotel staff was not that cooperative. However there were no TV and refrigerator in non-AC rooms which is no where mentioned in their website. It is far away from the Calangute beach around 3.3km, so its not a walking distance from the beaches... Ignoring the above points the hotel from inside is very good and the rooms too..

What's Good: Worst place to stay in Goa for Indian people. Hotel staff is busy in serving only foreigners all day
by Susan W on February 11, 2018
The hotel is what you would expect for such a basic price . Do not expect western standards . Hotel in need of some t.l..c but we found the bathroom/shower always worked well. Yes you do have to hand the key in at reception every day and say " clean please " , but the room was always cleaned we!l . The staff were all cheerful and friendly . Breakfast was very basic but it is possible to order extras for very little money. Food was well cooked and very reasonably priced in the restaurant . Music in the evening usually ended at about 23.00 ,however there were often a few noisy guests who just didn't know when to go to bed ! Downside is the hotel is a bit out in the sticks but away from the noise and pollution of Calangute . Plenty of taxis available or free bus to and from the beach several times a day . Basically you get what you pay for . There are plenty of luxury hotels in Goa , some are just for the rich , who may not see the " real Goa " .

This place really isn't worth mentioning. Its a disgusting, revolving pig sty. I would definitely never ever recommend this place to even my worst enemy. The music is blaring till all hours of the night and sometimes until early hours of the morning. PLEASE STAY AWAY.

Rather disappointing stay here at Village Royale. The hotel is just outside Calangute centre down a long narrow road. If you didn't know it was there you would never just stumble across it! The Village Royale would be ok to use as a base from which to look around the area but not the sort of place you would ideally want to stay on site for longer than is absolutely necessary. We stayed Bed and Breakfast here for 10 nights. Ok, so let's start with the Positives.... -They have Tetley Tea! -There are two pools both were very small but at least they were clean. - It was good to be able to get a sun-bed and even a sun shade too, although when we were there it was towards the end of the holiday season so likely not to be so easy at the peak of their season. If you can overlook their relentless attempts to extort money from you, the staff at the bar and Restaurant really are very nice. They work long hours and always have time for a chat with you. The menu food in the restaurant is absolutely second to non. I don't think I've ever had such a gorgeous Vegetarian Paneer Tikka or Vegetable Korma. And the Roti..... wow! And the prices were really good too! The Negatives.... - the rooms are very very basic with two single beds and a wonky wardrobe. - they are the Hardest beds EVER...it's about day 3 when the back pains really kick in!! - Very basic cleaning done- which you need to request, and the toilet rolls are rarely replenished leading to you having to go begging at reception. -the floors in the rooms were dirty. Even after the room had been "cleaned" the floors still seemed to be filthy. I ended up putting my own towels down on the floor to walk on as I didn't like getting into bed with dirty feet! -There was also THE smell.... after day 2 we noticed a really pungent gassy ammonia type smell around all the ground floor rooms on the left hand side accommodation blocks. By day 5 it was so strong that I could hardly breathe and ended up having to move rooms to escape it! The 'included' breakfast consisted of a tiny glass of orange (which had probably been sitting for a while and being used as a fly perch) & two pieces of cold rock hard toast with margarine and a portion of Jam and Marmalade. Thank god the Tea was Tetley! -On the very 1st day I was ripped off by the on site "New Beginnings" Barber who decided to charge me FOUR times the actual price for a small toothpaste, and then tried to short change me. He seemed to think it was very funny that I picked him up on his attempt to rip me off....that was not a good start! Hidden extras should be the motto of this place as there are a lot of them here!!! -The Bar and waiting staff on the whole are very polite and friendly. However, they do tend to try it on at every given opportunity. When the management (who are just as bad) are not around they suddenly charge "night prices" for all the drinks in the evening- although no mention of this anywhere at all! -There is NO air con unless you pay extra for it (which seems very unfair when you are in 38 degree heat!) -Their website said that there was "Wifi" in the pool and restaurant area....yes apparently there is, but you have to pay extra for that, which is not mentioned on their website. -Their website said/says " for the comfort of our guests each of our rooms are equipped with a fridge...blah blah blah". NO they are not... you are expected to pay extra for that too. In fact everything over and above the hard Bed & the even harder toast is extra! The bathroom facilities near to the bar pool and restaurant are absolutely disgusting. Filthy, smelly and there was NEVER any toilet roll, soap or clean towels in there. You would usually be standing waiting outside the Ladies loo for 20 minutes to find a man would come out?!! You would then go in to find that there were puddles of pee all over the floor. Absolutely Gross! Sadly this resort is not making the most of its potential. It desperately needs completely refurbishing and redecorating, but I doubt very much that will ever be done while people still pay to stay there. In the absence of that some T.L.C, Thorough cleaning and a good lick of paint would not go amiss. It looks tired, worn, dreary and dirty. It's a shame as it wouldn't take a lot to bring it up to a more cosmetically appealing resort. Worth visiting the local(ish) beaches, Don't miss the Saturday Night Market. Eat and enjoy the live music at The Stone House.....BEST PLACE FOR AN EVENING OUT! Great food at The Mango Grove.

We arrived very early on Tuesday the 31st of January. First impressions where the dogs welcoming us when we stepped out of the taxi, there are lots and lots of dogs everyone very friendly if you don't want to stroke them they walk away. We were led to our room which was basic but had everything you need, the beds are not very comfortable twin beds with chip board Base 2 inch mattrace and a skinny pillow the bed smelled too there is a wardrobe. A ceiling fan that kept the room cool. The shower has a switch on the outside for a warm shower. Next day we went to explore next day breakfast toast juice coffee and tea is served from 7.30 to 11am. The pool was green which over the next 2 weeks was cleaned everyday and finally ended up crystal clear but it took quite a bit time for them to get there. The resort centre takes about 20 minutes to walk to down a single road cross straight over the cross roads which can be busy, calangute is busy with cars mopeds the beach is signposted. There are dogs and cows everywhere but again they do not bother you. There are plenty of atm to draw money out. The beach was okay plenty of shacks with sun beds you don't need to take a beach towels as they provide them. Indians will ask to have there picture taken with you to prove they are on holiday with foreigners. The hotels food is very very good the best we had whilst on holiday. The hotel serving staff where lovely and friendly. WiFi is 100 ruppees for 4 hours. To have your room cleaned you have to hand your key in at reception in the morning and say for your room to be cleaned. If you want anything the reception team will endeavour to help you. We wanted to go on a trip and they where able to contact a rep who worked for airtours who came to see us we booked the tiger trip. The trip was good 5.5 hour train trip thend after a night in a hotel 4.30 start up into the mountain to see the elephants tiger and monkeys,it really enjoyed the trip. Unfortunately that is where we ended up with delly belly boy that knocked us for six. And to be honest ruined the end of our holiday my hubby need up in manipal hospital which is a paying hospital English speaking but top class 2 days in with treatmenthusiasm cost 217. The staff at the hotel where lovely and I cannot recommend the welcome and service more. The draw backs for me where the noise the hotel was full of Russians who did not seem to care that it was 3 4am they were loud drunk a total pain. Would I return to the hotel no would I return to calangute no, I have been it was okay, but the beach was dirty as where the street. The people though we're lovely.
