We stayed here for only one night during a layover and wanted to be close to the airport. It was recommended in Lonely Planet so that's why we booked. Here's what I liked - 1. close to the airport; 2. The "house boy" Ram is charming in a very reserved way, he cooked us one of the best meals we had in India with deep friend bananas for dessert - honestly the best dessert I've eaten in a while; 3. There's only two rooms so not a lot of nose inside the house; 4. I liked the two dogs, mostly because I missed my dog Here's what I didn't like - 1. Hard to find and get into, we had to get our cab driver to call her phone number to get in, there was no buzzer; 2. The owner is a hard core smoker so the home reeks of smoke; 3. The room can use a good scrub, it was basically clean but it needs a good wash with some cleaning products 4. Loud outside noise - lots of banging, dogs, talking etc but it is India so I just put my earplugs in 5. Not enough hot water for 2 showers I wouldn't recommend this place to stay overnight. Maybe if Ram decides to open up a deep friend banana business I would go back but thats it.

I actually never got to stay at this place despite making a confirmed booking.. I wanted to book in advance as I was a woman travelling alone. I only found out that Mrs Perm Kamte had given my room away when I tried to book an extra night a few days before my stay, otherwise I would have turned up only to find no room. Mrs Parm Kamte had the cheek to say I hadn't confirmed the booking although she had replied to me on a chain of emails which had my confrirmation re booking.

I simply can't believe that this place was the author's pick in the Lonely Planet guide.....it must be a mistake, or, Prem Kamte must have done a good job in impressing the author temporarily. Anyway, based on recommendation made by lonely Planet, I stayed here in July for few nights and got out of there as soon i could. Here is my summary of gripes: Bedroom is not "designer" - it's a pretty average room with dirty walls. No double bed - it's actually two singles joined together with a thin single mattress on top to give the impression of a single bed. The bed had bed bugs. Kamte (the owner) lives in the past - offers advice under the false pretence of "caring for her guests" but this is a guise- pay a little after the due time and you'll find out! Flat becomes very conjested when other room is full - the apartment is not big and Kamte is usually occupying the lounge with a bottle of scotch and cigars. Apart from the stench of cigarettes, the two dogs really create a foul "dog smell" in the apartment, worst of all, on a couple of occasions, I came across their faeces on the floor. There is no fridge in the room. Gulmohar park is really out of the way from anywhere - as the other reviews mention, it is difficult to get autos or any other transport from this place. The room has an old, cranky 1970's A/C unit which sounds like a diesel pump through the night - impossible to sleep. Anyway, I paid extra for the A/C of RS200 per day but during the Kamte "suggested" that I turn off the A/C even though I had paid for it.....? This review is harsh but in my view, it's totally desrved. I would never stay here again and I seriously hope you take my warning and avoid this place.

It was very kind hospitality of manager. When I need internet support, he immidiately helped me. Food was very home tast like. It is not easy to find the place even by Auto, but it surely will be reaxhed t the place. Do not worry. The manager also made early morning taxi appointment to the airport departed fom the hostel at 3:30. Thank you.

Home Away From Home is exactly that: the owner of the residence rents out two bedrooms to travelers, with breakfast included. Her helper is very courteous, and the property itself is comfortable and in a very quiet neighborhood. This is both a plus and a minus, as the neighborhood is far removed from pretty much anywhere you may want to go. Take the address with you whenever you hire an autorickshaw, because very few drivers actually know where this place is. The room we stayed in had a queen-sized bed, a private bathroom, and even a little balcony off the side. The owner offers laundry service, among other things, and all prices are prominently posted. If you are looking for a bed to sleep in with quiet surroundings, and don't mind hiring autorickshaws to get around, Home Away From Home is a good value. And don't be surprised if two basset hounds wander into your room!
