The journey to Gadiara from Kolkata is bit difficult. Uber outstation charges approx Rs2000/- one way and we had an horrible experience with Ola outstation which upfront charges had shown Rs 1680 approx and finally it was Rs2325/-. Apart from this Gadiara is an excellent place for weekend outing not far from kolkata...approx 87kms as per google map route via Uluberia, sampur, 58 Gate etc. It was week day but since it was new year time so there were lot of local picnic parties and guests were there in the Tourist lodge. The lodge is very nice but renovation work is going on and it will carry on next 1-2 years. Apart from that the resturant food charges are on higher side and quantity also not good enough. Any one going for a change can visit Gadiara away from hustle and bustle of the city. The place had not changed much in last 20-30 years as its my thrid visit.

This is a place only around a 100km away from Kolkata, just about 3 hours drive, the roads are excellent. The government owned Rupnarayan Tourist Lodge is situated on the bank of the Hooghly river and the Rupnarayan river meets here. This is my second visit to the place. I enjoyed my last stay at this lodge two years back, but this time it was more interesting because of our stay in the newly opened heritage building. You can sit in the balcony of the building and enjoy beauty of the confluence of the two rivers.

the heritage building is good.nicely maintained with good view .worth mentioning is the bathroom.the normal rooms are good.amenities provided are good on terms of the price paid.however the property is under major rennovation.however the normal rooms require improvement in terms housekeeping.the materials given/ used are good, staff are very helpful. Food given is good.only the task is to maintain the rooms, cleanliness is there but surely can be improved.somewhere its the staff training which will probably be the key factor in tackling these issues.

We were a group of 17 and booked seven rooms, including double and triple AC, and stayed during a weekend. The stay, frankly, was a disappointment, apart from the view of the rivers Rupnarayan and Hooghly and their confluence. The place was under renovation and there were lots of rubbles and dirt, but that is understandable. The following couple of points are not --- the lodge management may pay a proper attention, and also the potential tourists. 1. The rooms should be properly furnished. Dirty washrooms, leakage from the washroom taps, peeling wall plaster in the rooms, nonfunctional or missing intercoms, nonfunctional air-conditioners, and short supply of towels with the excuse of rainy season are simply not acceptable. 2. The food is definitely not up to the mark of what is expected in a tourist lodge like this. The quality of rice was poor, the cooking was amateurish (like no salt), and the hilsa pieces were way too small for the amount charged. While it is understandable that the complimentary breakfast is not unlimited, it is unfair to ask the guests to decide about the breakfast the evening before, as the place is not an isolated one with supplies hard to get by. A good point: tipping is not expected, they just include a 5% service charge, which is fair.

I was in Rupnarayan Tourist Lodge (Gadiara) from 11.04.19 to 14.04.19. A massive renovation work is going there and only six rooms are open now for booking after renovation. I went there by a car from Baranagar (North Calcutta) and took the route Nivedita Setu-NH 16-Uluberia-Shyampur-Gadiara and it was a two and half hours journey. The location of the lodge is extremely good and just on the river bank. It is a very big property with two ponds, many trees and nice lawn, maintained properly in spite of the renovation work. I was in a three bed room on 2nd floor with AC. The room is specious with a nice balcony facing the river Ganga. Bathroom is big with all modern facilities and a geyser. Furniture in the room are adequate and nice. Foods in the canteen are good specially for the Bengali dishes. Though the prices for the food is little bit high but it is OK. Staffs are good and the room service is also good. Jetty is just five minute walk from the lodge from where launches are going to Nurpur and Geonkhali every ten minutes. From Geonkhali, Toto is available to visit Mahishadal Rajbari and adjoining places. It is a nice place for a stay for two/three days and hope to go again in the rainy season.
