Didn't get a chance to stay here but the rooms look quite decent from the outside in the cottage setting. However, I've been to their restaurant every time I visit Hampi and can totally agree that the food is amazing, and the restaurant view of the green field gives it a wonderful vibe. The lasagnes, pizzas are one of the best in the entire Lane and would go here for the food again. Service is however not so brilliant with the staff quite difficult to talk to due to language constraints, however, still manageable.

Date of Visit : 16 December 2017 I had been wanting to plan a trip to Hampi since a very long time. So I started searching online for Hotel accommodations in Virpapurgadde and came across Mowgli Guesthouse. Following is my review based on the factors: Location : 6/10 Hotel Malligi is situated in Hospet and is around 10 mins walk from Hospet Bus station which is very useful to travel to Hampi. As it is located bit inside you might find it difficult to get public transport outside the hotel. Rooms :8/10 The rooms are absolutely clean and beautiful with nice comfortable beds. We had all the basic amenities in the rooms which you generally get. An electronic safe to keep all your valuables, a TV, , a refrigerator, hair dryer, etc. You get the point! Service : 8/10 Again the service the hotel offered was really nice. Timely room service where you did not have to keep calling to get it done. It also has a very clean swimming pool which is very well maintained. Just besides the pool there is the restaurant. If you are one of those fitness freaks who wouldn't compromise on your workouts on vacations as well you do have a gym and a spa as well. Food : 8.5/10 Food here was pretty nice and you had lots of variety in breakfast. Good options of vegeterians as well as non-vegeterians. Also being beside the pool its great to have your relaxed dine outs as well. Overall, we were pretty satisfied with the experience and it was really value for money.

Rooms are simple but clean, with air conditioning. However, air conditioning is on a timer from 9pm-6am (roughly) but the staff will make excuses about power cuts and solar panels. We had no problem with saving energy, just would have preferred honesty when it was very clear all other electricity was functioning. No bin in the room which meant our rubbish just collected in a pile. Clean bathroom and no problem with wildlife or mosquitoes in room.

This modest place with simple rooms was a good deal, walking distance from the river ferry to Hampi. The manager referred us to a very good guide for the temples. The food was quite adequate and we never ate anywhere else in our 3 night stay. There were mosquitos in the evening, which disappeared at night. The river view rooms were the best. Internet didn't make it to our rooms and the shower got hot only one morning.

Hampi is a wonderful, historical area and well worth a visit. However, I can't recommend a stay at Mowgli Guest House as the accommodations and staff each need improvement. Positive: Nice view overlooking the rice field and pretty sunsets Negatives (be warned, there are several): * At check-in we were taken to a "deluxe" attached room. We had ordered and prepaid for a River View Cottage (#30). When we notified the person he sharply replied "show me your reservation." Um, shouldn't YOU have a copy of the confirmation as, after all, we booked and paid directly through your website? Only after showing our printed confirmation did he move us to our cottage. * To be clear, we absolutely knew Mowgli would consist of basic accommodations (as are all the guest houses in Hampi, for that matter). Even so, the room was a disappointment, with holes in the ceiling, two separate lizard sightings in the room, the well-worn mosquito net literally taped together with a band-aid, shower head spraying in every direction except where a person would be standing, and so on. * Speaking of the shower, we were aware from other reviews on this site that the hot water is available only in the morning so ok, we'll shower in the morning. Well, in our 4 days here only once was the water warm between the designated hours. Each of the other days we had to "remind" them the water was cold and wait 1/2 hour for the pipes to warm. * Due to an illness we needed help finding a doctor/hospital and asked the front desk person if he could call for us. His response, truthfully, was "I don't have the number" and he turned around and walked away. Absolutely zero effort on their part to assist. * The day after we checked out they called to say we hadn't paid the full amount. Hello, your booking system required prepayment!! We sent them a copy of our reservation and our payment confirmation and expected the matter to be resolved. * But the following day we received yet another call saying we had ordered 2 rooms but only paid for 1!! No, we booked 1 room and paid for 1 room. It's not my concern or responsibility if you can't manage your reservations/front office staff; quit harassing me with unwarranted phone calls. From what we observed, the workers spent the majority of their day hanging out at the office playing board games. If they spent just a portion of that time in upkeep (paint room interiors, for example), the atheistic, if not the overall experience for future guests could be improved. As things currently stand, however, I can only recommend visitors stay anywhere else.
