We stayed in a non-ac room at Thilak for 2 nights. Maybe the quality in general for homstays and guesthouses in Hampi is low, but the room and bathroom was dirty and didn't look like it had been properly cleaned in a while. There was no mosquito net on the windows up by the celiling (and not possible to close those windows) so at night there was a lot of mosquitos. There is a mosquito net over the bed, but it seemed so dirty that we didn't want to touch it to take it down. Despite the abovementioned points the location is very good in the middle of Hampi bazar, and the guy that was running the place was helpful and available. However, we would not stay here again, and would recommend others to explore other options in Hampi.

What's important to know is what has happened in Hamp Bazaar recently: two months ago, the government shuttered over 90% of the businesses here. I actually corresponded with Padma Guest House through email, and found that they had arranged this place for me. The room is not bad, the bed comfortable, the bathroom clean (though I have yet to see hot water), the wifi excellent. Now if only the dog would stop barking! If you are thinking of staying in Hampi Bzaar in the very near future, you are best off showing up, wandering around and waiting for someone to approach you: you will probably get something more interesting (as someone I met here did) than by trying to book online - sorry Trip Advisor :) The person who got a cool room elsewhere with balcony and mosquito net was sworn to secrecy by the owner, who was afraid the police would shut her down. Having said that, it's totally worth staying in this area: it's a very trippy place!

Lovely and helpful owner who organised a tuk tuk to pick us up from Hospet at 6am after getting off the nightbus from Bangalore. Room was clean with a clean bathroom. We had a fan room which was fine and we didn't miss the air con. The owner also organised our forward journey to Goa which was very helpful. He also let us use his phone to call and book accommodation which was most helpful.

We booked this property but it was full so we were given different AC room. Although room was nice and bathroom was clean. Ok to stay for couple. Located at Hampi Bazaar and most of the restaurants were accessible.

We were really excited to stay in this homestay after seeing all of the reviews but we were very disappointed. For the price that we paid we were expecting much better and wish we had found somewhere else. The room was dirty and the bedding was covered in dark stains (photos attached). It was really uncomfortable sleeping on sheets that looked really dirty. Although the owner was very friendly when we arrived, we didn't see him for the whole time we were there and so didn't even check-in or out. Checkout is at 9am which is very early and at 8.45am a woman started banging on the door telling us to hurry up and get out of the room. Breakfast was nice and location is close to the bazaar but I am sure there are other homestays that are better value for money.
