Location is the only good aspect. Owner seems to be friendly but you will realise he just wants to rip you off. Room with no window. No hot water. Shower head covered has got so much limescale hardly any water comes through. Bedding and towels dirty and stained. restaurant not very clean. Much better options nearby. A lot to be improved

A poorly maintained "Home stay" in whats left of Hampi Bazar please don't be fooled by the reviews or pictures. So the scam goes like this, Kish the manager says your room isn't ready for whatever reason but don't worry you can stay in his "sisters" property just across the road. You quickly realize the other property is in fact another "home stay" called The funky Monkey and costs considerably less than Thilak. Kish then rents out the room you would of had in Thilak to someone else for the same amount you paid for it doubling his money. I cannot believe all the glowing reviews of this property it's quite frankly ridiculous. We insisted on staying in the room we paid for at the Thilak but with no hot water, a poorly maintained bathroom, shower and no wifi it was a pointless exercise. Kish, stop being so greedy and provide what guests pay for and maintain your rooms properly. Your helpfulness and chatty nature doesn't work on everyone.

Regardless of what anyone says... this is by far the best budget place to stay in hampi. The hospitality and service of the owner is remarkable. All the relevant points to visit are extremely close to this place.

We stayed in a non-ac room at Thilak for 2 nights. Maybe the quality in general for homstays and guesthouses in Hampi is low, but the room and bathroom was dirty and didn't look like it had been properly cleaned in a while. There was no mosquito net on the windows up by the celiling (and not possible to close those windows) so at night there was a lot of mosquitos. There is a mosquito net over the bed, but it seemed so dirty that we didn't want to touch it to take it down. Despite the abovementioned points the location is very good in the middle of Hampi bazar, and the guy that was running the place was helpful and available. However, we would not stay here again, and would recommend others to explore other options in Hampi.

What's important to know is what has happened in Hamp Bazaar recently: two months ago, the government shuttered over 90% of the businesses here. I actually corresponded with Padma Guest House through email, and found that they had arranged this place for me. The room is not bad, the bed comfortable, the bathroom clean (though I have yet to see hot water), the wifi excellent. Now if only the dog would stop barking! If you are thinking of staying in Hampi Bzaar in the very near future, you are best off showing up, wandering around and waiting for someone to approach you: you will probably get something more interesting (as someone I met here did) than by trying to book online - sorry Trip Advisor :) The person who got a cool room elsewhere with balcony and mosquito net was sworn to secrecy by the owner, who was afraid the police would shut her down. Having said that, it's totally worth staying in this area: it's a very trippy place!
