Thought we were arriving for dinner, bed and breakfast, but Sudhir surprised us with with comprehensive tour of his homestead and cardamom plantation followed by a mini safari in his off road jeep! Both fun and fascinating! We appreciated the mildness of the home cooked food, a brief respite from the full-on spices of our meals to date. The bungalow room was clean and the bathroom big and modern, although hot water in the lovely shower was not always guaranteed. Mine host was in constant attendance.

Nice to actually stay on a working cardomam plantation, and see the workers assemble in the morning for prayers and roll call. Room good size and comfortable, but electricity a bit haphazard (switched to generator twice). You don't stay in the Heritage Bungalow, but in a recent terraced construction (more facilities being planned/built). Food very freshly cooked, and catering for european palate; manager attends table and chats to you while eating.

Beautiful location. The manager Sudhir Sreedharan was very attentive and knowledgeable. He took us on an unexpected trip around the cardamom plantation. All the staff were friendly. The accommodation was really nice and the food was tasty and plentiful. Nothing was too much trouble. A very pleasant stay.

I spent a great night at Kalarickal Heritage Bungalow in Puliyanmala last week. Eventhough it was a working trip I had taken my small girls with me and KHB went out out of their way to keep my girls entertained. Full credit to the Property Manager, Sudhir Sreedharan. As it's a plantation Bungalow on 80 acres there's lot to do and see. Unbelievable serenity, lipsmacking homely food and superior service. And the canopy of yellow-red lady's shoe flowers at the entrance are a breathtaking sight!

We stayed here as part of a package holiday and hadn't researched it to speak of. The plantation covers a huge area but the accomodation is clustered together near the entrance from the road. Our room was spacious but as with many places we've stayed in India storage for clothes was somewhat limited. We had an effective rainfall shower but the handbasin (again like others in Kerala we've stayed at) just has cold water supply and a bucket / jug for getting water from the shower tap. Puzzling at first to Western eyes but you get used soon to it. There's some older rooms near the dining room so you might want to check exactly what you're being offered. Food was adequate if uninspiring; suspect it might have been chosen with Western palates in mind but could have done to be spicier for me. Guess you have to bear in mind the limitations of 'home cooking' compared to a full-scale hotel kitchen. Take your own beer and wine if you want it with meals; they're happy to chill it for you. Sudhir showed us round the cardamom processing which was interesting, with both the old and new sitting side by side. All in all, a relaxing couple of nights with some idiosyncrasies (it's India after all!) but don't expect too much of the meals
