A good place to stay overnight if you are travelling onward as it is located close to the bus stands. It is not a tourist friendly place and is a decent place for a quick getaway for solo travellers. The menu lists a lot of items of which only a few are available and room service is extremely slow.

I stayed in this hotel in 2012 Sept during my posting in Imphal for about 15-20 days. Good hotel, clean toilets, comfortably big rooms and wide gallery. Good food and attentive staff. Very near to main bus stand and main market.

One strange thing I came across in Manipur is the dearth of Hotels. Even the capital don't give you enough number to choose. Among few hotels available,Tampha is ok to check in. Hotel Tampha is situated near North A.O.C. Point, Imphal, Manipur. They have two adjacent buildings under their name, one having rooms starting form 1000 and another having best room for 800 bucks. So, you have both options. I was on a month long Bike ride in North East so I always preferred budget stay and thus opted for the building where rooms were available from 300 Rupees. Not very good I would say. Not very clean either. But just for a night, it's bearable.

Hotel Tampha is located in North BOC in Imphal and mainly popular with local people traveling within Northeast. Food menu is limited but just across the road is another restaurant that can provide good food. The staff and the manager can sometimes be moody or may forget your order, so you need to remind them constantly. A reasonable room, starting with Rs 500 a day (in their newly constructed building), single bed and a TV is okay. I was impressed by their cleaning service and liked that they knocked and insisted on cleaning the room on daily basis. There are several floors built and no lift which may not be a comfortable proposition for elderly people. Just outside Tampha hotel, you will find lot of Autos that can take you to the main bazaar. Overall its an average hotel and located in an area where there are no STD booths ;-) and you cannot find/buy butter around, although there are rows of grocery shops just outside the hotel.

We stayed in this hotel as a part of our trip of the North East. Imphal and Manipur do not seem to be hot destinations for tourists at all. We seemed to be the only tourists around! In fact, the locals kept asking us why we were there! There were armed trucks patrolling the streets at half-hour intervals with AK47s drawn! But that did not faze the locals, who went about their work as if it was normal! The streets emptied out after dark, though. The Tampha Hotel is mainly used by overnight travellers as a halting point on their onward journies. It has an advantage as it is situated right in front of the bus stands. We had asked for an extra bed or mattress for our room, which was agreed to by the people at reception after consulting their 'boss'. Later, however, they refused to give the mattress, as their 'super-boss' had not given them permission for it! We were willing to pay extra for it, but to no avail! We did not move out because our son was ill. They have a long list of food on the room service menu (there is no restaurant in the hotel) but most of it is not available. Simple stuff like noodles were not available. So we settled for whatever was available - luckily it was good! Room service takes ages to come through, so it is advisable to order whatever you want at one go. The room could not be cleaned on the first day as the housekeeping guy was 'absent'. On the second day, the sheets were not changed for the same reason! Oh, you have to go to the Reception to make a phone call, the intercoms in the rooms are not connected to the outside world. On the whole, an okay hotel if you are someone who is pleased with the minimum requirements!
