Rajmahal makes a statement where style and symmetry dominate. It is both a classical and a contemporary home within the walls of a royal palace. From first being conceived as a pleasure garden for a favourite Queen, this property, once on the outskirts of Jaipur and now at its core, became the British Residency, and then finally reverted back to being the private home of His Highness Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II of Jaipur.
Theirs was a family of unparalleled riches and power, indelible truths that mark the history of the Kachwaha clan, from the grand City Palace complex to the majestic Amber Fort and much more. Signs of their power are symbolized by many historical facts.
One was the gifting of the land on which sits the Taj Mahal, wonder of the world, given by the Jaipur royal family to the Mughal Emperor for the mausoleum he crafted for his beloved wife. The other significant piece of land they released to the British Crown was for Viceroys House on Raisina Hill in New Delhi, now Rashtrapati Bhavan, the Presidential Palace.
The Jaipur Column designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens commemorates that transaction; it stands tall in the forecourt of the building. This hotel is easily accessible from Jaipur Railway Station which is just 2 km away.
The other places to visit are Amer Fort (13.4 km), Jantar Mantar( 5 km), Hawa Mahal (5.5 km) and Jal Mahal ( 10 km).

Our VERY FIRST impression of Rajmahal was a great one, I must say... Upon arrival, we were greeted with a glass of sparking wine, at their gorgeous living room/lounge, restored to perfection, to resemble the beauty of old times. Little did we know, that soon, our disappointment would begin. The Palace Room that was given to us had nothing palatial about it ! It had a strange layout, lots of small rooms - bedroom, sitting area, vanity, bathroom - but none spacious enough - and NO WINDOWS - at least not real ones - just two small ones with tinted glass, that one can NOT open, nor look outside - which, of course, made the room very dark. The BATHROOM has got to be one of the WORST we have ever had in a hotel, if not THE worst ! Tiny and in URGENT NEED OF RENOVATION ! Please, see attached photo. The next day, we informed them that we were not happy with our accommodation. We were staying for 6 days and at USD780 a night, this was NOT acceptable. Well, although the hotel was more than half empty ( and later on, completely empty, for three days we were the only ones - and it was high season, I think that says a lot ), it took them another day and another complaint , to finally move us to another room. During the whole time, 6 days, the GENERAL MANAGER WAS NOWHERE TO BE SEEN ! Really ? Yes ! For a small property, that markets itself as exclusive, that CAN NOT happen. A General Manager or a Deputy must be present at ALL TIMES, overlooking staff and guest satisfaction. Even more so in India, don't get me wrong, I lived and worked in India for many years and I know it's not easy to train staff to western standards. For example, I witnessed one of the staff, who was cleaning our room, STEPPING INSIDE THE SHOWER, to refill shampoo/shower gel bottles, WITH SHOES ! That's not very hygienic. And even WORSE, I watched him use the same cloth, that he FIRST wiped the toilet bowl, on the sink counter ! That shows lack of supervision. The INTERNET ??? FORGET IT !!! Did NOT WORK at all, MOST of the time !!! Hard to understand ! Afterwards, we went to Ranthambore, a remote area, compared to Jaipur, and there the Internet worked perfectly ! Sorry, Rajmahal, but some things are just not right about your place !

The four of us stayed in the two bedroom QE 2 suite at the Sujan (great rates at the time of booking). With only 13 rooms and suites, the hotel never looked busy and crowded and the staff has all the time to fuss over you. We were very impressed with the restaurant and housekeeping staff and liked the fact that there were no fixed breakfast hours and wonderful afternoon tea that can be taken anytime. Rooms were comfortable, spacious and luxurious as one expects. Will definitely stay again if visiting Jaipur.

A truly spectacular hotel in many ways. The building used to be part of the Palace of the Maharajah of Jaipur. That in itself is impressive, but when you add in other notable guests that have frequented these luxurious rooms - HM the Queen of the U.K, Jackie Kennedy, Charles & Diana, Margaret & Dennis Thatcher - you know you're in for something really special. We stayed here for 3 nights in a beautiful room on the first floor. The staff are beautifully dressed in white and pink. There is nothing that is too much trouble for them. They are there to please the guests in every way possible. Laundry and free pressing of clothes - of course! Free afternoon tea on request - certainly! A floodlight table on the extensive manicured lawns - not a problem! The decor is nothing short of sensational. Beautiful wallpapers, stunning chandeliers, flowers in abundance. Each night a little gift was left on the bed to finish off a perfect day around Jaipur and Amber. There's nothing really to see immediately outside the grounds of the hotel, but why would you want to venture out when you can live like a Queen or a First Lady? Food was excellent; wine expensive (but it is everywhere in India), and the service just impeccable. All credit to the management of this sublime oasis set amidst the frantic cacophony of Jaipur. There are only 15 rooms - go visit before it gets too popular. Truly memorable. Thanks a million.

My husband and I stayed two nights at the Rajmahal Palace in Jaipur and loved it! The decoration of the palace is amazing, straight out of a Wes Anderson movie or a Vogue photoshoot. It is elegant, colourful and luxurious! The food was very good. And the staff is lovely! Loved it!!
