We stayed for 2 nights at Camp-e-Khas. Since we were driving ourselves, reaching the place was easy. 2 nights meant and intervening day and there is nothing to do at the camp. Both evenings were fantastic, at the dunes, covering small portions on one day and walking out far on next. We managed to create a nice time-lapse video over 45 minutes. It captured the essence of sunset in the desert with changing hues of the sky (Strictly after sun has gone down). Morning at sand dunes, in a jeep, courtesy the stay package was great. Calm and beautiful, where evenings had large crowds. Food was OK, with just a touch of rajasthani cuisine in 2-3 dishes, breakfast standard. Service was decent. Surprise was us being upgraded to luxurious tents on night 2 (large booking for regular) - they were great. Only discordant note; Jeep drivers which go for morning desert visit tend to double book, they will take one party, drop them and then try for another party. On the way back we had to follow-up with the Driver and the camp to get the driver to pick us for return trip.

We stayed at Camp e Khas for 1 night on the 26th Dec. The booking process and interaction with the team over phone and emails went smoothly, which made us feel that the stay in the desert camp would be the highlight of the stay. The camp is located around a km off the road, you need to follow well marked directions to reach it. The reception and check in was quick. We were told that the camel ride is around 1.5-2kms away and you'd have to make your own arrangements to reach the place, which kind of took us by surprise. Ideally, a camp which is charging well over 7-8K should make such arrangements for the residents. Once we reached the camel ride spot, the vendors told that they would drop us to a particular point on the most crowded place in the desert and post sunset, you'd need to walk back to the car park from that spot.. which was another surprise.. We paid the vendors some extra money and they took us to a lonely dune where we were able to spend time peacefully. The camp had arranged a cultural show in the evening with a bonfire. The artists put up a great show. However, the quality of food and the service of the camp left a lot to be desired. The starters were cold and we had to go and call the servers to kindly come to the place where we were sitting. The dinner had a good buffet spread, but the taste of the food was average to say the best. The breakfast menu and spread was good. As far as the camp goes, it is quite big and roomy. We didn't expect any heaters and were prepared for a cold night. The bathroom is supposed to have running hot water, but that was missing. There were no towels in the tent. We had to ask for it twice before someone came and gave those. The worst part of the stay was the fact that not only this camp but all other camps around the area play loud music till 11pm or so, ruining the peace and serenity of staying in a desert camp entirely. If you want to just sit outside and gaze at the wonderful starlit sky, you'd need noise cancelling headphones to really enjoy it. Overall Camp e Khas wasnt so khas (not so special). Not recommended.
