it's not a guest house, if you don't take a safari.....you're kicked out!
by Joseph W on
Several people in Jodhpur advised this guest house, so I checked it out, but it turned out to be a bad experience. The room and matrass however were good, though there was the smell of burning plastic from the open area just in front. I came in in the afternoon. In the evening they told me however, that either I could take a safari with them next day (staying 1 night in the desert), or I had to leave. Do I have to tell more?
friendly place outside the fort
by huangchan on
Rising Star Guest House is a friendly accommodation that lies outside the fort about 5 mins away. A staff was waiting for me at the railway station when I arrived late in the evening, almost close to midnight, to bring me to the guesthouse on a bike. I was very thankful for that. At a good price, the guesthouse was basic and clean. As I was only staying for a night before heading out to the desert with them (real desert man safari), it was adequate. Wifi seemed to be restricted to the reception area though. I also didn't have a hot shower that night but that was likely to be because I did not realise where the switch for the heater was (usually outside the room). Hot water was available in the room that was provided for a quick shower after a night out at the desert. So do ask the staff if you have trouble with getting hot water in the shower. The breakfast was not memorable so you may want to head out if it is not included in the price of the accommodation. From Jaisalmer, the guesthouse got me a ticket to Udaipur (~10 hours overnight) that leaves at about 6pm. This will be the best way to Udaipur from Jaisalmer. But try to get the ticket early because you might end up without a sleeper and it can get rather uncomfortable on the seat. Be expected to arrive in Udaipur at about 4am and make the necessary arrangement with your guesthouse.
Very looked after

Stayed here because I also did the real desert man camel safari by the same owner (also very good!). They made it very easy for more short stay in jaisalmer. Staff were very helpful! Cheapest rooms are on the ground floor and it was a bit loud but the room was very good otherwise especially for price and was clean with hot water (you have to wait a bit).
Great place to stay

We chose this guest house as we were doing a camel trek with the real desert man who also runs it. This proved to be great-they picked us up from the bus stop in jaisalmer when we arrived and looked after our bags when we were away on the trek overnight. They go out of their way to help even with non-camel related activities! We heard some horror stories about extremely pushy hotel owners pressuring guests into doing their camel safari; can't comment specifically on this as we did do the camel trek with these guys but I don't imagine they would be too pushy. Really friendly, funny guys. Great food in the rooftop restaurant too. Would definitely recommend this guest house if you are doing a camel trek with the real desert man.
Very accommodating place

Good place for the price, very friendly staff and after we did our camel safari they let us use a room to shower for free. They also have a laundry service so you can get your clothes washed while you're away riding camels!
Don't go here if you have no intention to take a camel safari with the compagny next door.
