The last time we visited Jaisalmer we stayed in a modern hotel some way outside the town. This time we chose Mandir Palace and were delighted with the change. The situation is ideal for visiting the old town . We stayed in the "Golden Suite" which is a magnificent spacious room with a large terrace. The hotel is charming and full of character. There is a roof top restaurant with good views of the fort. The hotel also has an interesting museum which is free to guests staying there. Although the evening meals were good the breakfasts were rather poor ( not much choice for western tastes) When in Jaisalmer don't miss the Bara Bagh Cenotaphs and the opportunity to go on a jeep and camel safari.

The room and the views from it into the courtyard of this Palace were jaw droppingly good. We received a guided tour from the manager and it is one of the places where I have felt it a privilege to stay. It was very quiet when we were there and lacked a little atmosphere and a few small problems re internet and hot water (all sorted) but overall awesome the stone carving itself needs to be seen to be believed. Staff were great and location is at the gates to the walled city.

This place is a shame! I used their pool for 450 roupies, and went to their restaurant for the lunch. The staff of the restaurant is nice, trying to make their best, but its unfortunately the worst service I had in India, for the must expensive lunch. They did mistakes in the order, took out our plates when one of us didnt finish to eat, and the worst was to ask if we want desserts or cafes?!? How can you ask that when someone is still eating his lunch? Finally, they ran after me because I was not able to take a picture of the building from outside - because Im not a client of the hotel - (but I still paid to use their pool and for an expensive lunch). And when I just had a look of the courtyard, a guy screamed on me that Im not a client of the hotel to get there. What a joke. I really dont recommend it. Beautiful place but expensive and very rude staff.

he palace is part of the Mandir Palace Museum. Its an experience in itself to stay in such a heritage property which is one of the top tourist destination in Jaisalmer. The rooms were spacious. The bathroom was clean. It had all the amenities required for a trip. We stayed there for new years eve. The experience was awesome. They had a new years gala planned for the eve with buffet, cultural folk dance and music. Everything was set as per international standards with guests belonging to multiple nationalities. It was quite chilly at night but they had proper burners in place to maintain the temperature. This gala event was attended by the royal family as well. Bhoj Raj Singh was very courteous. He even got us to meet the royal family during the event. The royal family was very humble and down to earth. Overall it was a great experience, will definitely visit again.
