Had the Privilege to visit this Palace , its museum. We had also met and interacted with the owner of this magnificent Palace and the present King of Jodhpur His Highness Maharaja Gaj Singh II. The officials of the Palace was all along us to guide and tell about the Palace, the Jodhpur kingdom etc. His Highness also shared with us his welfare activities and future plans.

Spent two nights here and can say: we really enjoyed our stay - although it wasnt perfect. But it came very close to perfection, I have to admit. Check-in: what an experience!! Trumpets, quite a ceremony stepping up the chairs - feeling like a king. WOW. Rooms: absolutely NOTHING to complain about. 504+503 - spacious room, King Size Bed, large TV Flat screen with numerous channels, seating area, Desk+Chair. Bathroom: large - one has a separate shower cabin and a tub, the other one has the shower integrated into the tub and is smaller. So what. Everything worked, although the wooden toilet seat is a bit strange. Service at the hotel, the restaurants, the SPA: ABSOLUTELY PHANTASTIC. Not a single second of a complaint. And I am critical about these things, particularly in a price category like this hotel is in. Always friendly, always anticipating your needs. Impressive. So what is it then that was NOT perfect? Well - they moved furniture on the roof terrace - at 1 AM and at 5 AM. Wont ever understand why they do it at these times - but staying directly underneath brings your night to an end - at least for a while. The noise was unbearable. We complained the next morning, they promised to stop this thing - and of course the following nights at 11h30 PM they did it again. Upon my immediate - quite explicit complaint - they stopped it immediately. So THIS was the only thing that stopped me to giving full points. Service was great, Food was great, whole ambience was great - this ONE thing you need to fix it and then this hotel is my number One in the world. I shall check on you next year...

Just got back from Jodhpur a few days ago and thought of sharing a bit of the experience while it is still fresh in my mind. The kids just didnt want to come back - and that probably best summarizes the stay at Umaid Bhawan. It would probably be unfair to just highlight a few things from the stay, because it was a memorable experience every step of the way - right from the time Ranu met us while we were picking up our luggage, till the time he saw us off after getting our boarding passes. And his points of interaction are probably a tad unfair for others on that team, because it is far easier to remember the first and the last impressions :) However, that many others managed to leave a mark through their magnificent hospitality speaks volumes of the hospitality and warmth. Virendra, Puneet, Karan, Satyendra, Raval at the Pillars and I am sorry for forgetting the name of the member who oversaw the service of our Rajasthani dinner the day before we started back. His name should have been right at the top. The three other people I want to name but am unable to, are - the two chefs who made us dinner on Sunday (oh, the bruschettas!) and Monday (the lovely customized Rajasthani dinner) and the ones who guided the kids through the cookie making session. Alka, Jitendra, Manveer at the front office and Priyanka and Harshvardhan who handled the inroom dining were both thoughtful and helpful. The housekeeping staff were ever-present and spot-on, yet never intrusive. Perfect! Another name I wanted to mention was the tall bespectacled young gentleman who took us to our upgraded suite (thanks for that too) initially. That I have written about so many of the team members before I have spoken about the majestic palace is probably the best compliment I can pay to the Taj. Leadership makes a huge difference to any team - so, kudos to Ms. Mehrnavaz. The palace itself is grand, as a palace should be. The meals at the Pillars and the evening walks in the lawns and the leisurely chats at the Baradari will linger in our memories for long. The way they manage to maintain it keeping it so very functional while retaining its essence is a miracle in itself. And the consistency with which they are able to ensure that their guests experience that royalty is praiseworthy. Both the service and the palace alone are worthy of an experience - when you combine them, it is no surprise that you have one of the worlds best hotels.
