It was truly a royal experience sharing the Umaid bhavan palace with the Marwar king himself. The palatial rooms, magnificent view through the windows, delicious food at Risala teamed with caring staff made an impact on our hearts n minds that will take a lifetime to fade. Chef Chransingh, ever smiling Punit and Koushik, are a few of the courteous staff surely deserve a special mention. As a whole, we had a memorable honeymoon at Jodhpur, filled with moments to cherish forever!

My husband an I just returned from a 1-night stay at the palace. It was an incredible experience. Highly recommended, even if you can stay just 1 night, it is worth it. With out 24-hour stay, we did not feel rushed at all. The building is stunning, and service matches :) Food: Mixed review. I'll first say that we are lucky to travel to 5-star hotels often and we are also have very high standards for food. The chefs were very kind to cater to my dietary restrictions / allergies (vegan, allergic to dairy). They made a special vegetable plate, and even a vegan dessert - a creamy mango mousse that was unique and fabulous. Our lunch was fantastic. For dinner, my husband's Caesar salad and pasta was not good - disappointing. Breakfast was good, but disappointing that the breakfast you pay for with the room is a 'set' meal (not buffet), many items which my husband and I either don't eat at all or don't prefer to eat (cold cuts, spicy fried Indian foods), and also the fruit was not ripe - surprising at this level of hotel, but I guess it is a desert. But you can order a la carte (chargeable) for additional items. Outdoors: The outdoor pool experience is great also - gorgeous view of the palace, and great poolside service (I won't spoil some of the nice surprises). Lovely to walk around the gardens and see the peacocks. Room - There were very few visitors (as I think it is low season) and our room was upgraded. Lovely! Just a note: skip the free "palace tour". Not much info provided, more just a guided walk with the guide saying "and this is the ___ room". The hotel could improve on this.

#waahTAJ The X-factor in my experience was they were able to anticipate exactly what I need & when I need and this is something I never found anywhere else. They ensured to give me #HisHighness like majestic experience starting from rajputana welcome till we parted our ways. Their #heritage suite gives you a WOW moment and the things u can do ranging from visting royal stable (FYI I love Horse Riding) to learning mocktail making leaves you with memories to cherish for forever. If you wish to experience what ROYALTY is, what its like to be from a royal family, I believe it is THE place to be. #waahTAJ

This works on so many levels that i am sorry the review is a bit long To really appreciate the concept and philosophy behind the architecture of the magnificent Taj Umaid Bhavan Palace in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, one has to visit the nearby towering Meherangarh fort first. For generations the Kings of Jodhpur lived in this stupendous bastion atop a formidable monolithic rock, which was a fighting citadel as well as a palace. In the great famine of late 1920s, the ruling monarch, in an effort to create employment for the farmers, built this palace which was to be the last of the great palaces of India, completed in 1943 after 15 years. Today, as one approaches this palace, along a winding hill road, the first impression is that a medieval Angkor Wat has embedded itself under the dome of the Taj mahal. Entirely built in red/pink sandstone, called Chittar locally, the palace has beautifully manicured front garden and lawns. The traditional grand welcome, with music and the drums beating in solemn cadence ushers one into a lobby and then into an absolutely regal central atrium topped by a dome over a hundred feet above one's head. One look, and you know that you are in a palace!! It is awe inspiring and solemn without being forbidding. And that is exactly where the Taj people have got it right. Without their legendary discreet hospitality, it would be very easy to be overwhelmed by this absolutely huge, almost austere stone building. The rooms and suites are spacious. ..definitely larger than most hotels...and are adorned with Art Deco furniture which was at the height of fashion in the mid last century. Bathrooms are outstanding. Views form the suites are simply amazing !!! The restaurants serve excellent Indian and continental food and this is exactly the place to ask for caviar and champagne for breakfast overlooking the Baradari gardens !! The bar has a fine selection of single malts, especially a few from Berry brothers. Remarkably, they also have a few bottles of Chateau d'Yquem 1999, if you want to really celebrate in style !! Or play billiards in the game room over Cognac. I very strongly recommend that one stays in one of their many fabulous suites, which although a little more costly, will give one a better experience of palace life. In the off season, they are the best value for money. But what makes this India's and the world's best hotel is the warm hospitality and competent efficiency of the management and staff of Taj hotels. Their attention to guest needs is absolute. My wife and I will definitely revisit this grand palace, hopefully many more times, to sample its various pleasures - visual and culinary. My best wishes to the Taj Team...bravo! !!
