I stayed at Heritage Thengal Manor for one night. The historical hotel was beautiful. It was a tea plantation manor. The hotel ground was most impressive. The inside was also beautiful, including the room. The room was large. The bathroom was large, simple but clean. The dining room was also nice as well as the sitting area. I wish I stayed another day in Jorhat so I could spend more time on the lawn to read. Just outside of the hotel was a small village where we took very pleasant walks in the afternoon to see sunset and in the early morning to see sunrise. Villagers were friendly. We could see peaceful tea plantations. The hotel has a swimming pool but it was not swimmable. Life in Jorhat around the hotel was slow and quiet. It was a good place to relax. The hotel was very nice. The reason I gave 4 points instead of 5 was due to its bathroom which could be renovated a little bit.

Thengal Manor itself is an imposing building set in lovely grounds. The decor is good with interesting family photographs on the walls. However the running of the hotel is a disgrace as there is a complete lack of management. There was no-one to meet us on arrival, the bedrooms smelt strongly of mothballs, the bedcovers were very damp, the bathroom was dirty and throughout the house there were endless bulbs fused (at least 4 in our bedroom). The food was ok. Luckily we were only booked in for 1 night. It is such a shame as it could be a lovely place to stay with the right management in place, but as it is, I would urge people to stay away. It was the only hotel on our trip in Assam that was unsatisfactory.

i'm very sorry, but i have really to complain about this place.Sure the palace and the location, are very beautiful, but the rest is terrible.Starting from the the durty room, where you can't even sIt on the sofa, the bathroom, cold and smellingand fatiscent. For dinner ,they serve us,nothing, two small pices of fish and when we ask,if was possible to have some more they simple say no!!!No wifi, also in the living room and no tv connection. The staff, don't speak english and they are not absolutely helpful.

Fooled by the excellent pictures on the internet we drove in to make a reservation for a stay on our return from Majuli... When we drove in we realized that the photographer would have pushed his talent and equipment to it's limits to showcase this rather outdated unkempt old mansion... We decided against staying there and on our way out we were charged 150 RS per head for entering the place!!

This is colonial property turned into hotel, using antique furniture and fittings. It is located amidst the rice field and tea garden, rather remote from Jorhat town itself. It is a nice getaway for a quiet time, yet without the modern luxuries (including WIFI). Staff are friendly and welcoming, and small scale (half a dozen rooms only) gives a family like ambience.
