The surroundings and the view are magnificent.Only this is a plus point and nothing else and the list of negative points are never ending. 1)The rooms were very dusty. 2)Despite the bathroom being so large, the part near the toilet seat always remains half-submerged. 3)The geaser does not work. 4)The heater does not work. 5)The t.v. does not work and when you ask the staff they say it is because of the cloudy weather, but when the sky is clear the t.v. still does not work. 6) Some light CFLs do not work. 7)There is no calling bell to stay in touch with the hotel staff. 8)The food is costly. 9)Some windows do not close and some do not open. 10)They provide additional blankets but they are not enough to keep us warm. I would request the hotel management to look into these matters,so later the people coming in will not come across these problems.

I was on a bike trip with two of my friends to dawki and we planned to take the jowai route. We stayed at Orchid inn and found the stay very comfortable. The service is good and rooms clean. The good thing is that we got a cottage for 3 of us to stay. The hotel has separate cottages as well. It gets cold at night so they provided a room heater in the room which was quite sufficient to beat the cold alongwith the warm blankets. We also went for a morning walk besides the famous Thadlaskein lake which is just opposite to the hotel.

We checked in to the cottage which had two bedrooms and a huge bathroom. Since there was no intercom or bell to call for room service or housekeeping, one had to resort to call the manager via the mobile. The food was very pricy and was mostly delivered cold. Although we were offered additional blankets, they were not warm enough, to add to that regular power cuts for long intervals made even more freeing as the heater would not work. The only plus side of this lodging is its location on the highway connecting Shillong to Jowai and couple of other NE states otherwise one has no choice but to stay here due to lack of any good lodging facilities in Jaintia hills. The furniture, curtains and room was dusty and dirty. We then checked in to the super deluxe rooms the next day since it was too cold and was located near the reception and restaurant. This room was much better relatively but on the whole the service is not up to the mark. The hotel manager delayed our check out and there was some complications with our bills which was settled after 60 minutes of wastage inspite of communicating our urgency of preparing the bills early as we were heading off to a village in west khasi hills which was a 7-8 hour drive. There is a lot of mis communication among the hotel staff and the manager. MTDC should ensure better services on the lines of the GMVN or KMVN

I was so upset when I saw the rooms here! They were musty, dirty and not worth all the money we paid! To start with, we informed 3 hours before we to reach, and the rooms were still getting cleaned! There was no electricity back up! The furniture was dirty, stained and basically not cleaned. The Tata sky remote did not have a battery cover and it kept falling off. There was no way to reach the service staff, no phone, no calling bell! The lights were switched off without consulting at 11 Pm. Everytime you had to leave your key or fetch it back, one had to go into the staff's private chambers to call them and then retrieve it! The only saving grace were the surroundings and sites, simply breathtaking!

Eminently recommendable!! Far removed from the normal tourist beat, around 6 kms from Jowai town on the Shillong-Silchar highway, this place is right opposite the Thadlaskien lake. Really nice place to stay for a couple of days for exploring the Jaintia hills - especially the Nartiang monoliths, the incomparable Tyrshi falls, and the route to Dawki via Thlumuwi, Jarain and Amlaren. The service is really good. The staff, the front desk, and the manager are all ready to go out of the way to help, arrange taxis and suggest sight-seeing options. The deluxe rooms are large and spacious, each with a balcony facing the Thadlaskien lake. But wait till you see the batchroom - it's literally huge ... you may start wondering if it was meant for more sporting activities than taking a mere prosaic bath. The Jaintia hills are pristine, and as yet largely untouched, which makes them a plesant contrast from the crowded tourist spots in the Khasi hills. It is certainly worth taking a couple of days off to explore these parts, since the distances are such that it would be difficult to cover everything from Shillong. Just one word of caution, though - the food is nothing to write home about, especially the Indian stuff. Stick to the Chinese fare, or else try the dhaba next door!
