Very good hotel inspite of being run by govt. It's an old British era bungalow converted into a hotel but all the old charms are retained. We stayed at the first floor family room and it was HUGE!!!, clean and well maintained. In fact size of the bathroom was almost the size of bedroom of a 2/3* hotel. There is not much view from the room but once you come out of the room and step to the balcony, you will be able to see Kangchenjunga on a clear day. Kangchenjunga is also visible from the lawn of the hotel, This hotel is at a very quiet place and away from main market area...specially the night absolutely quiet. Food is also good and tests like homely cooked. Staff behavior is also . good.

We planned a family summer vacation tour of kalimpong around 4 months back and booked this property from 27- 30 May check out, 3 rooms. On 26th May, when we are on the way, got a call from WBTDCL that due to clause no 5(administrative requirement), our booking is cancelled from 28th May. It was impossible to arrange 3 good rooms at the last minute of the peak season at kalimpong and in a minute our well planned vacation with so many other bookings were spoiled and very sadly WBTDCL is not bothered about tourist inconvenience as they are government employee and the typical khalliballi attitude is prevailed everywhere. We stayed one night at rooms 103, 104 and 106 and we enjoyed staying there. Rooms were clean, so were toilets and premises. Foods are very good but relatively costly but ok as a tourist to pay little extra with cleanliness and quality. Overall - property is good to stay with family but beware that your booking could be cancelled at last minute or even while staying at lodge. Better serviced and located private properties are available with peace of mind during your tour and not to jeopardize your well planned vacation. I wish no body should face our situation in travel and request WBTDCL to be more tourist friendly in reality not in glow signs or advertisements.

Its a typical british era house with large rooms with fire place (not functional). What astonishes me is that being a government property, the lodge is well maintained. The staffs are well behaved specially manager madam. The food is also good, but give preference to bengali food over chinese. The USP of the hotel is its lawn. On a clear day you can see Kanchenjungha from its lawn.

During my family visit of kalimpong in August 2016, we stayed at Hill Top Tourist Lodge for 3 nights. We booked the rooms online through West Bengal Tourism Dept Website. The rooms are very spacious, clean and well maintained. the view from the room and the balcony are great, its very close to nature, just little far from the main market, which makes the lodge more beautiful, bit isolated from the busy city life. Location is just superb. Food quality is good, but little expansive, and not much varieties available. The only problem is the rooms don't have any AC or Fans available, if you are going in summer, it might be a problem for you as the whether is relatively hot at that time. But still I will recommend this place to stay, you can really feel the charm of a good old British Bungalow here.

The property is made in a good setting; however as a tourist It did not meet my expectation in many ways 1. The rooms do not have a view. You have to comedown and comeout of your rooms to enjoy nature. 2. The gardens are very ill maintained. They should have been in much better shape. 3. In summer it is quite hot. For big 3 bedded room one table fan has been provided which was not sufficient dor us. I must say some of the good things also 1. The manager and the other staffs are very freindly and takes care of your needs. Specilally if you need any transport. 2. The food is good. You get good fish. Chicken is also avilable. Try the roast chicken with boiled vegetables . However younwill not get mutton until and unless you order for 5 plates. 3. It is great to sit in the lawn in the evening and have a cup of tea with onion pakora.
