What's Good: Property is at a good location but much suitable for honeymooners and nature lovers. Families with Children will not find any activity at the hotel. Staff is very pleasing and helpful specially the F&B staff. They try to fullfill all your food demands. Neat and clean hotel with a valley view .

We have stayed there on 2nd march, 2018. After a long day journey from darjeeling and visiting different spots in the kalimpong we reached the hotel in the evening to spend a comfortable night as it is our end of the 6 days trip and we had to catch flight from bagdogra next day. The entrance of the hotel is very near from the Kalimpong market and taxi stand. As we reached the hotel during holi, most of the shops were closed. Now the entrance is a quite normal looking one with parking space being in the front makes you feel like it is not the hotel you have thought of. However once you leave your car and cross the gate towards reception, a majestic view of the hotel and it's surrounding will welcome the guests. The hotel as mentioned is a heritage property and is very well maintained. Once your formalities at reception is completed, the staff will welcome you with a welcome drinks and will take you to the lounge area. The furnitures are mostly decorated to suit the heritage property and most of the wooden furnitures are beautifully decorated. The adjacent bar has also some good collections, though I didn't get a chance to visit the bar properly. We have been allotted room no 56. The room is very nice with all the required amenities present. Also, the bathroom is clean and all the necessary stuffs are present. The view from the room is awesome. Though I would suggest room no. 54 and 55 as they are more in the center and will give you better view of mountains. The food in the restaurant is good and my suggestion would be to taste the english/ continental food as it is the speciality. We had both dinner and breakfast buffet at the hotel. The staff are very well behaved and always ready with the suggestions to make the food more worthwhile. Both the buffet have enough spread of food and specially the breakfast buffet is the star of the show. Also, the staff at the reception helped us to get a cab booked for bagdogra. The Hotel review will be incomplete if I dont mentioned about the very well behaved and adorable dog present in the premises. Although having a huge physique he is the most well mannered and friendly dog. You will definitely love him. I would definitely recommend to visit the property to get a feel of victorian era luxury amidst of the beautiful kalimpong city.

This is a heritage hotel in Kalimpong with a focus on maintaining the period look and feel. Food and beverage can be definitely improved as they are very average. Not worth the money they charge. Rooms are ok, most are decent sized, some very small, each is different in size and appearance, so see as many as available and take your pick. Missed not having an exhaust in the bathroom.

Elgin Hotels and Resorts-earlier The Silver Oaks. The property is elegant and the taste of the Owner is revealed the moment you enter the hotel. It is one of the heritage hotel and the oldest ones in Kalimpong hardly at a two minutes walking distance from the main market road. We stayed there from 7th to 10 Feb 2018. It was a luxury trip for us, me and my wife. The staff is very cooperative and the hospitality is at the best. It was an off season, and in the two out of the three days, we were the only guest in the entire hotel having around 34 elegant rooms. The entire staff was at service. The open area in front of the hotel is well maintained and has many plantations with a beautiful lush green lawn. There are varieties of flowers in the garden, and you can spot butterflies. The garden has two shed if you wish to dine outside the hotel. The yard offers an excellent view of Kanchenjunga when the sky is clear. The pathway in the garden is well thought of to ensure the difference in elevation is taken care off by provision of slope and steps. The slope is gradual and the steps have a small height of max 4 inches each to ensure elders and small children can easily negotiate. There is a Russian breed well behaved dog, which may be a terrific attraction for the children even the pet loving individuals. Every hour a melodious chime is heard in and around the hotel from the clock tower nearby visible form the first floor rooms on the garden side. Ensure that you request rooms on the garden side which gives a magnificent view of the garden and the Valley. The interiors are well maintained and seem to be a very very selective choice of wood and brass combination. The residence is decked with lithographs of old masters, old furniture and book shelves. A piano tune is always heard once you step in the corridors of the hotel. The reading room next to the bar is elegant and has various books and magazines on vivid topics and subjects. The rooms are elegant and are equipped with all modern amenities with elegant old time furniture. The first floor rooms # 54 and 55 are exactly in the center of the length of the first floor span, on the garden side with huge glass windows which facilitates a view from the room itself. You have an excellent range of wifi in each room to be in touch with your near and dear ones. In room dining as well as a superb dining hall is available at the hotel. Indian continental food is available and you could express a desire for a particular dish which would be served in the best possible manner. The crockery and the set-up of the dining room is eye catching. The bath towels are changed on daily basis. The hotel provides heaters in each room to ensure the room remains warm and cozy for the guest. Smoking is allowed in the rooms. The bar is equipped with excellent wines, whiskies, rum and Vodkas catering to the test of individual guest. The cleanliness is impeccable inside the hotel as well as in the garden area. The hotel offers a secured perimeter guarded at the entrance gate and walled on all sides to ensure your vehicle remains safe inside the parking lot. The travel distance from Darjeeling to Kalimpong is about two hours almost 55 odd kms, with a fare for small cabs ranging between INR 2500 to 3000/-. Local travel can be arranged thru the hotel or you can hire a cab from the market place. There are nine points in Kalimpong to visit in the local package, charged around 1500 INR for the visit. If you want to enjoy the luxury do not miss on the Elgin. I would say you get what you pay for.

The Elgin Silver Oaks is like going back in time. What a fantastic heritage hotel. Wonderful big rooms, high ceilings, great views, very plush lounge, great old world bar and a grand old dining room with first class meals with great service. Also, great gardens with massive valley views. Can easily recommend this.
