5 star hospitality.
by Jay B on
We stayed here for 2 nights - on our way to & from Shimla. Both times the hospitality couldn't have been better or more accommodating. On the way to Shimla we were very late arriving here due to a cancelled train from Amritsar & then left to catch the 5.45am toy train. On the return journey we didn't leave Kalka until 7pm & the guys here accommodated a late check out. All this was dealt with with a smile & a no hassle attitude. Alongside this we had a comfy bed, plenty of hot water & a great location as it's only 10 mins walk to the railway station. Ok so it's not a five star hotel, but for what is essentially a transit hotel in a transit town it certainly does the job very well.
No sleep due to noise
by travel0guy on
Stayed for one night prior to catching train from Kalka to Shimla. The owner was friendly and helpfully suggested where to eat and check in was quick. The room itself wasn't too bad with 2 double beds but the e bathroom wasn't very clean and there was no hot water during our stay. The main issue tho was the noise. Not only was the tv in reception on full blast so you could hear it from your room but also there were families including children shouting and screaming in the corridor until well after midnight. As a result got only 2 hours sleep before having to get up at 0400. While this hotel was not particularly expensive and is located a 10 min walk away from Kalka train station I would recommend staying elsewhere.
Great hotel for Over night Stop over

Its an Ideal motel like place in true sense .Generally People stay over in Kalka on their way from Himachal or to Himachal or more significantly if you are taking the early morning train to Shimla from Kalka one of the best toy train ride in the country . The hotel staff are very helpful and cordial , not much waiting time in reception as they know most people choose this place are very tired and need rest . Food is good and quite in Budget the restaurant serves good variety of dishes for breakfast dinner and lunch ,Room service is available
No Glamour, But a Very Helpful Staff.

While this hotel is not glamourous, the staff and ownership is extremely welcoming and helpful. I was arriving in the evening on a train from Delhi, and never having been to Kalka, I was concerned as a woman traveling alone. The owner met me at the station, and arranged for a rickshaw for me for the short trip to the hotel. They welcomed me, made sure I had everything I needed, and one staff member insisted on walking me to a restaurant and walking back with me after I ate! (I didn't ask for this--but I appreciated their care). So if you are in Kalka overnight waiting to take the train to Shimla, this is a very reasonable option.
Small as well as tiny
by DaisyClover on
We stayed one night here between arriving on the train from Delhi at 9.20pm and leaving next day for Shimla on the Deluxe toy train at 5.20pm. I paid Rs1455 on Agoda, which was no bargain. The bright little room was tiny, so tiny that if we put both our bags on the floor there was no where to walk around them. There was nowhere else to put them. The wet-floor bathroom was also tiny and inconvenient. Check in involved even more bureaucracy than normal. I walked down stairs to get towels before realising that I needed to go down again to get a top sheet. Our room was facing the street which was very noisy until the town went to sleep. The hotel is walking distance from the hotel directly up the main road in front of the station, except that it is up hill all the way. With hindsight, I would have paid an auto a few Rs to take us. There are a few hotels closer to the station on the main road. They may be worse, I can't say.
Choose rooms in the upper floor facing the main road

I would avoid 103, as there is a vent leading downstairs, and you can hear everything the staff is doing/saying preparing for the morning.
