This HPTDC hotel is located in the same premises as hotel Kinner Kailash and Kailash camps. Because of the names our driver got a bit confused as all locals know that there is just one HPTDC hotel in Kalpa. These cottages are very reasonable in cost, we got a room for 3 in just Rs 1100. The rooms were clean and room service was reasonably quick. Ofcourse there was no view from the balcony, but straight out of the building one could witness the majestic Kinner Kailash peak. They have a beautiful all wooden restaurant, though the quality of food and speed of service needs to be improved. The path to the rooms require a bit of stair climbing and is not recommended for older people with knee problems

This is an economical accommodation provided by HPTDC. The same premises also has mid-budget and luxury rooms. You need to climb a few stairs as the room complex (named Sun n Snow cottage) is situated at a higher place towards the back of the premises. This climb can be really tiring to some people. But this provides the best view of the mountain range. The view is awesome. The room had a heater, a working water heater. Bed linen had stains but otherwise clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. Overall our stay was comfortable.

My wife & I stayed at The Sun & Snow Cottage (HPTDC), Kalpa during end September 2015. This one is located at the Kinnaur Kailash Cottage complex, around 100 meters upward from the Restaurant & Reception. View from the room and the front balcony is arguably the best in the Kalpa region. One can enjoy the sunrise & sunset from the room itself (Double bed room). There are only two double bed room in this cottage and view wise these are best. All the three lodging setups in this complex is catered by a single restaurant. The spiral staircase, which takes one from the reception to the dining hall and the wooden wall glass window structure will draw ones attention at the very beginning. Add to that sumptuous food and awesome view. We enjoyed an array of Himachali, continental & north Indian dishes, appreciating the view of Kinnaur Kailash. And above all the hospitality and the caring attitude of the HPTDC staffs made us spellbound during our two nights stay. Its hard to believe that a Govt. run property, with such handful staffs in a remote area like Kalpa is earning accolades from almost every tourist staying here. Through this review I wish to congratulate Mr. Tej Singh, Mr. Negi, Mr. Pradeep and the bell boys : Yashpal & Nitin, for their hospitality & hard work. Keep it up you people are doing great job. The only aspect which needs improvement is housekeeping. Having said all the good things about this property followings are some important tips for the tourists: Older people or anybody having trouble to climb the stairs, should not book this property. The two double bedrooms of Sun & Snow Cottage have INDIAN STYLE TOILET. If anyone is uncomfortable with it, book the deluxe / super deluxe cottages. Due to scarcity of manpower room service as well as food preparation takes time. Make it a point to order at least 40 minutes earlier. As Kalpa is a remote place, any breakdown in the infrastructure needs time to get repaired and if one is unlucky then there is no way but to compromise. In our case Intercom was down and we had to call up the reception from our mobile (Airtel & BSNL network is available). But overall I believe this is the best place to stay at Kalpa.
