Good ambience, good facilities, ok-to-bad food, weird service
by meetalks on
The location is beautiful and the farm is well-kept with lots of greenery and flowers (we visited in September 2019). The farm house doesn't have access to the river. There are loads and loads of mosquitoes though. The food is basic in variety, which is good. In quality though, some of the things were bland. We requested a sweet dish (which is usually included in such meals). It was half-cooked and you could tell that the homekeeper-cum-cook felt forced to make it. For dinner, instead of a full dinner we requested barbecue with some rice item. We told the lady in charge that since our stomachs will be full with the barbecue items, so not too make too much of the rice dish. She served us one-dinner plate of barbecue items for the six of us. This had paneer (cottage cheese), cauliflower, potatoes and capsicum. It didn't have onions and tomatoes as promised. And of course, she had already said pineapple won't be possible. More than half the things on the plate were charred. And they were certainly cooked well before they were served. Barbecues are meant to be live counter items but both the cook and the person she had under him were on our case to have dinner from about 7-7:30 PM. We had told them we will be eating late because we weren't hungry. The dinner time was mentioned until 10PM. At 9:15 or so when we asked for the barbecue to be set up we got this plate of mixed veggies that were half-burnt. There was some rice, and we were told, "you asked to make limited quantity." We had asked her to make limited quantity of rice and not of barbecue items. Next morning while settling the bill for meals (900 per head), this is the summarised conversation we had in Marathi: Me: How much do I pay you? Considering we hardly ate anything last night, could you please consider reducing the amount. She: it is 5600. It is your fault that you asked me to make less food. We had a bit of a back-and-forth about how we didn't expect such little barbecue, etc. Me: Ok. I don't want to argue anymore. She: I don't want to argue either. Fine pay me 5400 (which was the original amount due anyway) Me: Why did you say 5600 earlier? She: You made me make so much coffee and hot water. I am not charging for that. We had brought coffee from home which we asked her to add water and re-heat. I have never been charged for hot water, ever. Nowhere in the world. In fact, by Indian standards of hospitality, any other host would have asked if they could make us anything quickly for dinner since we fell short of food. Remember, this place is not too close to other eateries, so it's not like you can drive down or order in. Anyway, we made no such demand because it didn't even occur to us then. We did ask if there were leftover or bhakri/chapati (Indian bread) from lunch. We got some daal (lentil soup/curry). There was some more unpleasantness, but this was the general experience.
Nice villa, costly food

Yes, the villa was very good and everyone was very happy with the amenities and location of the villa. Positive - Well maintained villa Nice location Good amenities Negatives - Mosquitos 900rs per person for food very costly considering the food that was offered

This is one of the best places managed by SaffronStays around Lonavla. Its very close to the hiway but once you enter the place you still feel cut off from the hustle bustle. Its a old bungalow but still very classily done, lush green around and the best part are the care takers. Ganesh makes sure all you needs are met and Moushi who is the cook is just phenomenal. Her food is just too perfect, you ask and they will make everything for you.
Very nice place and a good care-taker family

We had an amazing stay at Firdaus Baug. The bungalow is in the midst of greenery on all side. It has 4 bedrooms with 11 bed and can accommodate 24-25ppl. Also has several indoor games like carrom (2 boards), table tennis, cards and many board games. Enough number of seating arrangement available like chairs, sofa, couch, benches etc for few people to relax. The house is full of several unique and antique show pieces. The care taker and his family were very welcoming. They were readily available for any kind of help required. Served very nice homely food. Few things which can be improved are The railing on first floor has huge gap between two steel bars. Thats need to be changed as small kids may fall from there. They have placed nylon string but even thats not fool proof. Secondly one of the bathroom door on first floor can't be closed. Need to repair that at the earliest. Thirdly the villa has yellow lights everywhere which after a point in time makes it quite dull and gloomy place. Atleast bedroom lights should be replaced with white lights so as to make place more vibrant. Overall it's a big YES for next time with Saffron stay. This small changes will make the stay more pleasurable.
Best Getaway for reunion with Friends near Mumbai
by chiragshethia on
Thanks a ton to saffron stay for making perfect getaway for us for awaited reunion. We were 5 couples n 3 kids and had gala time. 1. Location is quite good only 85 kms from Mulund and easily accessible. Only inner road of 1km near bungalow is bit bad because of rains. 2. Its parsi owned bungalow with enough place to accomodate 20 guest inside and oitside in verandah. 4 bedrooms with 11 beds, 1 living room, 1 dining room and 3 big verandahs all together. 3. Interiors r very antique and abpe to maintain old charm of bungalow. 4. Caretaker Mr. Ganesh and team are very welcoming and enthusiastic to serve guests. 5. All meals were simple and traditional with good taste(we had only veg). I suggest here to try traditional maharashtrian dishes as cook was maharashtrian lady and expert in traditional dishes. We had jhunka bhakar with in dinner which was awesome. 6. All rooms, washrooms and beds r clean and well maintained. 7. Only concern is since its between 34 acres of farm land owned by owner in evening u hv to close all doors to avoid mosquitoes n other insects. Overall awesome bungalow for short getaway and would definitely suggest everyone to visit
