Quiet and peaceful place. The staff takes good care of you, the rooms in the hotel can be a little better, especially the sheets. Nonetheless the staff goes the extra mile to make you comfortable with their available means. The walk down to the property, perhaps is its charm, but will help if they did it up a bit, just to avoid any accidents, as all tourist who come there arent used to the roads and driveways of the hills.
Perfect for the Triund trek,

This hotel is approx. 2 kms from Mcleodganj, via a motorable road. Stayed here for 3 nights, had a wonderful time. The hotel is quite strict with its check-in time of the afternoon, and I unfortunately ended up arriving from a morning bus from Delhi all tired and drenched in the rain at about 7-30 in the morning. The staff were kind enough to let me rest in another room till the time my room was ready - really appreciated the gesture. I saw no difference between the superior deluxe, and the deluxe rooms, and went for a deluxe room. The room was clean, very big in size, with the bed good enough for 2 people, and the quilt and blankets were warm enough for the night. They had an LCD TV and set top box in the room though the last thing I wanted to do in Himachal was to watch TV. There were no heaters in the rooms, there is complementary filter water, and towels, and you get a bar of soap. The bathroom was clean, the geyser and hot water shower / tap worked, and the room was cosy in the cold spring himachal nights. The views are amazing and the solitude and quiet of the place is very soothing. The only thing is that transport options from Mcleodganj to the hotel are limited - at night most autos and cabs refuse to take the narrow motorable road, and it gets very quiet after dark, so make sure you get to your room on time. (One can also walk from mcleodganj to the hotel, though it is not advisable to do so at night. From Mcleodganj's main crossing, an Auto to the hotel would charge about 100 rupees, and a cab would charge about 150 rupees after much bargaining ). The hotel is a good base for anyone taking the Triund trek - it is about 2 kms walking distance from gallu devi temple, which is the starting point for the Triund ascent. The food options at this hotel are decent, and so are the prices ( you will find the food prices at par with anything in Mcleodganj, so don't be alarmed). The food was tasty, had a homecooked feel, and was adequate ( I tried the parathas and omelettes for breakfast, and the dal fry and roti's for dinner). There are a few cafes nearby - Om's cafe in the Dharamkot town below - lot of international hippies hanging out there, and Morgan's place which is further up the road - though all these places are expensive for the budget traveler. There are also grocery stores nearby in Dharamkot, though the prices of everything are jacked up by 5-10 rupees so it's better to get your supplies from Mcleodganj. The staff at Shivalay are polite and well mannered, and will help out if you need anything. For 600 rupees a night this place was the best value for money I could ask for. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to visit Triund or Mcleodganj, but wants the quiet and solitude of the valley.

I visited dharamkot last week and to my surprise this place became a heaven after the snowfall. Lovely place with mesmerizing views. The only negative point is the road which is very narrow and steep. We had a good driver from amritsar who helped us reach the hotel properly.

i went to Dharamkot for family vacation and stay there for 4 night. location of this hotel is very nice and from balcony you can see whole Dharmkot and good mountain. when we were there , there was rain falling and we enjoy that while sitting and sipping coffee in balcony. the staff was very good and they allowed us to cook. we cook our food by ourself.
Luxury in the lap of nature, peaceful and scenic location

The view from the room and windows on each side makes you feel delighted. The stay here was superb, away from the hub-bub of Mcleod Ganj which is 2kms by road (an auto charges Rs. 70 approx.). There is a road which allows cars to drive till the hotel, however, this was under construction while we visited (2016 summer), so make an enquiry if elderly people or kids are accompanying you. Ask for rooms on the first floor for better views and privacy. If the road to the hotel is not operational, it is about 1km walk from Himalaya Tea shop. We got clean room and bathroom, staff was co-operative too (got the tea made to our taste). We did order any food at the hotel as McLeod and Dharamkot offers a lot of cafes and cuisines to pick from, so no opinion on the hotel food. Take the downhill walk from Himalaya Tea shop, around Tushita Meditation centre, you will end up in McLeod Ganj in 20-30 mins. This is a nature walk with a paved lane, no vehicles except bicycles maybe, where you will see fellow-travellers, monks and locals. The surroundings are very scenic and good for photography. If carrying luggage, hire an auto for commuting to McLeod.

The room on the second floor in the building beside the main building is the premium room. Views from this room are spectacular.
