To review the Courtyard House the whole experience must be taken into context as well. It is not just a very comfortable place to stay, but the main reason that you go there, is to experience the wonderful nature by which it is surrounded. This must be taken into consideration as well. We booked the Courtyard House through India Footprints Adventure (via a link from Responsible Travel). Neelesh, the owner of both the Courtyard House and India Footprints organised our whole trip from us being collected at Delhi Airport to returned there two weeks later. The whole trip went like clockwork. Every email was answered promptly. The other part of our trip in the Golden Triangle (Delhi, Jaipur and Agra) was also well organised by Neelesh, with private car and guides throughout. We arrived at the Courtyard House after a 15 hour overnight train journey to Jabalpur (well if you are going to India, part of the experience must be a train trip!!) followed by a 5 hour drive. We were quite tired. It was certainly worth all the travelling to get there. Our room was on the first floor, very large, huge comfortable bed and spacious shower room with dressing area attached. Gowns, flip-flops and toiletries also provided. Tea and coffee facilities were on hand as were 2 one litre bottles of water - replaced every day. There was an electronic safe and fridge as well. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food excellent. In our 8 nights (16 main meals - breakfast was a picnic out in the tiger reserve. ) not one main dish was ever repeated. The Courtyard is situated in the Kanha National Park Buffer Zone. We had booked to stay eight nights and booked 6 days of Safari. Every morning we were up at 0430 to get ready to leave at 0515.We returned around 11.30, then lunch and out again at 14.15 returning at around 18.45 for a quick shower and dinner. In addition, we also had one night safari which gave an extra dimension to our wildlife tours. It was certainly worth getting up early and going out twice a day. We had Uday as our guide. He has a wealth of knowledge about wildlife - both flora and fauna, without him we wouldn't have seen as much as we did. We saw many different animals and birds, the 4 species of deer and 3 species of antelope as well as many other mammals including a porcupine on our night safari. We also with Uday's help saw and identified over 80 different birds. A mention must also be made of Santos who was our safari driver. His eagle eyes spotted many tiger pug marks along the road. Talking of tigers! We had 14 sightings altogether. This included the same female tiger twice, one of her almost adult male cubs, a tigress with 4, 3 - 4 month old cubs, the oldest tiger in the park - Munna AND we were lucky enough to witness a kill right next to our jeep. Uday who has been working on an almost daily basis in the reserve said it was only the second he had actually seen and the last one had been 20 years ago. So we were so privileged to see it. Our whole experience at the Courtyard House was top class and we would certainly stay there again. It is so quiet and situated in the reserve buffer zone. It is away from all the other accommodation (about 15 minutes drive) which is nearer to the reserve gate the only night sounds were the cicadas. There was no light pollution and the stars were magnificent. Every evening we sat under the stars for our evening snacks and drinks. It was cool in the mornings but once the sun was up it was top 30'sC but little or no humidity so very bearable. A final word must be said about the fact that the local community benefits from the Courtyard House. All the staff are from the Kanha area and most have worked there since it was opened 5 or 6 years ago. In addition to that the local tribal school for children up to 13 years of age is also supported. Recently Neelesh arranged for the school to be fenced in to prevent the cows and dogs polluting the grounds. Also beautiful mats have been bought to replace the hessian sacking the children had been sitting on. Also the teachers have been given tables and chairs! All in all a very enriching experience which we thoroughly enjoyed and we hope one day to go back again.

What a truly amazing holiday! We booked through India Footprints Adventures (via Responsible Travel) and our experience was one of the ultimate holiday. This small hotel (five rooms) was perfection. Perfect location, perfect staff, perfect food. Everything about it was more than we could have dreamed of. The owner (Neelesh) and his staff couldn't do enough for us; we wanted for nothing. Our room was huge, comfortable and spotlessly clean. Evening times with pre-dinner drinks sitting around a campfire discussing the days safaris was a highlight. Our guide and driver, Rachid (sorry about the spelling) and Santos were true stars. Their knowledge of the park and where to find the animals and birds made the trip. Three sightings of tigers topped it off. They even made getting up at 4:30am worth it! If you are thinking of a safari in India, please consider India Footprint Adventures and Courtyard House - they are the best ever.

The staff were welcoming, polite and helpful. The food was superb at every meal with a good variety, I just wish I could have ate more! On the safari drives the guides and drivers from the house were great. We saw Tigers, a leopard jackals, wild dogs, a variety of dear and lots of birds. A great place for a relaxing but exciting break.

We booked through Neelesh at India Footprints and from the moment we landed at New Delhi airport, everything was perfect. Neelesh responded quickly to all our emails and organised all our internal flights, airport pickups and a tour of Delhi. Everyone we met was so friendly and efficient and our guide and driver in Delhi were exceptional. Courtyard House is a jewel, in fact I cried when we came to leave. The rooms, atmosphere, location, cleanliness and above all the staff, beat any 5 star hotel. The food was delicious and extremely plentiful, they even let me into the kitchens where they showed me how to make 10 different curries- a real treat. We loved that we ate dinner and lunch in different locations - balcony, poolside and terrace. We loved the campfires, again in different locations, where we had great chats with Mr Patel, looked at the stars and listened to the sounds of the forest. We were served delicious snacks and drinks here too. We loved the pool area where we relaxed between safaris. The staff are amazing, nothing is too much trouble and we especially loved being served our evening meal by the delightful Rama. We went on 10 safaris with the amazing and knowledgeable naturalist Mr Patel who made it his personal target for us to see a tiger and eventually after 5 drives we did! An unforgettable moment, we then went on to see 2 more. So lucky. We really enjoyed the bird life too. The driver Santos was an expert too, so between him and Mr Patel we always seemed to be in the right and best location for the tiger. This was an amazing holiday, we were treated like honoured guests and would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to see the elusive tigers from an idyllic retreat. Thank you to everyone at Courtyard House for a fantastic week, we miss you all already.
