Went for a very short evening tea. Great tea with lemon grass and topped it with aalu Pakoda with mint chutney. Just mouth liking. Worth a visit anytime. The rooms are very ethnic with period furniture.

I've loved tigers for as long as I can remember, probably from when I saw 4 white tiger cubs at Bristol Zoo as a toddler. It's always been a dream of mine to see them as they should be seen, in the wild. With my 60th birthday looming we decided to try it this year. We found a company in England called Responsible Travel who linked us up with Nileesh and his Indian Footprints Adventure company in India. After a week relaxing in Goa we flew to Delhi to be met by a company representative who escorted to a hotel, the only downside of this wonderful trip was that we weren't booked in. However, a booking at a sister hotel was rapidly sourced and a complimentary dinner thrown in as compensation. Met the next morning we travelled by plane and taxi to the Courtyard House Hotel. A wonderfully designed and equiped residence with just 5 guest rooms the atmosphere is superb, the food excellent and the service meticulous. We saw tigers, my wife on the second drive when I was indisposed, and then us both on 3 more days. We had a wonderful experience of a leopardess and her cub which had even Uday, the naturalist with 20 years experience of the Kanha National Park, excited by its almost unique closeness and length. Add in all the other animals and birds we saw and it was truly a holiday of a lifetime. Made special by the care and attention to detail provided by the owners and staff of the Courtyard House Hotel and Indian Footprints Adventures. Thanks Responsible Travel for putting us in touch.

Even before the start of our trip, the stay at Courtyard was the one we were looking forward to most. And suffice to say, it not only lived up to our expectations, but also exceeded it! The property itself is beautiful and the rooms were no less than 5-star level. The rooms were spacious and full of amenities. Since we were a group of 9 and had booked all 5 rooms, the entire property was at our disposal for the night! The swimming pool was well maintained, and the TV room is a welcome addition to the place. There were 3 spacious verandahs as well. Such was the space available to us that we were spoilt for choice. We wanted to fully wind down at Courtyard, and we sure did that! Our evening was made when the staff made arrangements for us, with a bonfire-like setting and chairs around it. Special mention to the chefs there: they outdo themselves with each meal. We were left asking for more after each one, and somehow, they delivered every time. All of their vegetables are grown locally, and the purity of the ingredients came through in its taste. We loved our stay there so much that we requested them to extend ours by a day. Unfortunately though, it was booked right through for up to 2 weeks. All in all, it's a fantastic property to stay at with courteous service staff, food to die for and as an added bonus, make memories for a lifetime!

Excellent all round - food, accommodation, pool, service... Of particular note were the quiet, secluded surroundings, the homely cosiness and the attentiveness of the staff. Great air-con in the rooms, plenty of quiet, peaceful seating areas, first-rate pre-dinner drinks and nibbles by candle light... just magical!

To review the Courtyard House the whole experience must be taken into context as well. It is not just a very comfortable place to stay, but the main reason that you go there, is to experience the wonderful nature by which it is surrounded. This must be taken into consideration as well. We booked the Courtyard House through India Footprints Adventure (via a link from Responsible Travel). Neelesh, the owner of both the Courtyard House and India Footprints organised our whole trip from us being collected at Delhi Airport to returned there two weeks later. The whole trip went like clockwork. Every email was answered promptly. The other part of our trip in the Golden Triangle (Delhi, Jaipur and Agra) was also well organised by Neelesh, with private car and guides throughout. We arrived at the Courtyard House after a 15 hour overnight train journey to Jabalpur (well if you are going to India, part of the experience must be a train trip!!) followed by a 5 hour drive. We were quite tired. It was certainly worth all the travelling to get there. Our room was on the first floor, very large, huge comfortable bed and spacious shower room with dressing area attached. Gowns, flip-flops and toiletries also provided. Tea and coffee facilities were on hand as were 2 one litre bottles of water - replaced every day. There was an electronic safe and fridge as well. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food excellent. In our 8 nights (16 main meals - breakfast was a picnic out in the tiger reserve. ) not one main dish was ever repeated. The Courtyard is situated in the Kanha National Park Buffer Zone. We had booked to stay eight nights and booked 6 days of Safari. Every morning we were up at 0430 to get ready to leave at 0515.We returned around 11.30, then lunch and out again at 14.15 returning at around 18.45 for a quick shower and dinner. In addition, we also had one night safari which gave an extra dimension to our wildlife tours. It was certainly worth getting up early and going out twice a day. We had Uday as our guide. He has a wealth of knowledge about wildlife - both flora and fauna, without him we wouldn't have seen as much as we did. We saw many different animals and birds, the 4 species of deer and 3 species of antelope as well as many other mammals including a porcupine on our night safari. We also with Uday's help saw and identified over 80 different birds. A mention must also be made of Santos who was our safari driver. His eagle eyes spotted many tiger pug marks along the road. Talking of tigers! We had 14 sightings altogether. This included the same female tiger twice, one of her almost adult male cubs, a tigress with 4, 3 - 4 month old cubs, the oldest tiger in the park - Munna AND we were lucky enough to witness a kill right next to our jeep. Uday who has been working on an almost daily basis in the reserve said it was only the second he had actually seen and the last one had been 20 years ago. So we were so privileged to see it. Our whole experience at the Courtyard House was top class and we would certainly stay there again. It is so quiet and situated in the reserve buffer zone. It is away from all the other accommodation (about 15 minutes drive) which is nearer to the reserve gate the only night sounds were the cicadas. There was no light pollution and the stars were magnificent. Every evening we sat under the stars for our evening snacks and drinks. It was cool in the mornings but once the sun was up it was top 30'sC but little or no humidity so very bearable. A final word must be said about the fact that the local community benefits from the Courtyard House. All the staff are from the Kanha area and most have worked there since it was opened 5 or 6 years ago. In addition to that the local tribal school for children up to 13 years of age is also supported. Recently Neelesh arranged for the school to be fenced in to prevent the cows and dogs polluting the grounds. Also beautiful mats have been bought to replace the hessian sacking the children had been sitting on. Also the teachers have been given tables and chairs! All in all a very enriching experience which we thoroughly enjoyed and we hope one day to go back again.
