We stayed at Amban for two nights. We had a toddler with us. The hosts were really nice and welcoming. The caretaker was equally nice. They all took turns to cook delicious local food for us. They were all very soft spoken and took care of all our needs. They were also very quick in responding to our queries. It was a pleasure staying at Amban heritage.

Refreshing,The ambience was rejuvenating. We are so thankful for the delicious mouth watering food. Care taker was nice and the food she prepared gave us a homely feeling.Staying at a traditional home like Amban Heritage is a different experience.

Our expectations were exceeded during our stay at Amban Heritage. We stayed for three nights and every day was pleasant. The hosts Sudha and Sushil shared their knowledge of the local culture and gave us great recommendations on places to visit, where to shop for local stuff and places to eat. However, the best food we had were at Amban heritage, prepared with love and joy by the ever smiling Shaina, using vegetable and herbs freshly picked from their own garden, where everything is grown organically. We hope to visit Amban Heritage again, not just because the place has a great location and is convenient to move around, but also to meet the hosts and learn about gardening and local flora and fauna from Sudha, who by the way not only has a green thumb, but probably has green toes as well--for the ground she walks on seems to turn fertile. The rooms and amenities are tastefully and thoughtfully furnished with modern comforts while still retaining the old world charm of a house which is more than 100 years old. No wonder you can feel the care that the hosts have for the place. And tea times were something we looked forward to--not just because the tea, infused with bayleaves was refreshing(sorry, Sudha, am letting out your secret ingredient :-))but also it was an occasion for interesting conversation with the host.

I went to Kannur and stayed at Amban for 4 days early August. And I must say I had the best time. This was my first trip travelling alone and I couldn't have picked a better place to stay and a better city to visit. The team in Women Weekender - Anne and Rashmi planned my itinerary very well including different types of visits and last minute requests readily. From handloom factories, to beaches, bird sanctuaries to house boat rides and cultural dances. I saw a bit of everything. Sushil and Sudha made my stay in Amban house a very pleasant one. Sudha maintains a beautiful garden out front and there was something very peaceful about sitting outside in the patio and having your early morning tea. You could sit there for hours. Sushil, the patient one, gave me tips and suggestions on what to see in each place, and helped change my itinerary if I needed to. Not enough could be said about Shayna's cooking. She made an awesome 3 or 4 course meals everyday and so many varieties to choose from. And Prakash took me around everywhere and was the most patient person letting me be and not hurrying me up for anything. Kannur by itself is also such a beautiful place. Not commercialised at all and so well maintained. I visited a lot of places there but some of my highlights were the forts - Bekal and St. Angelo's, all the awesome beaches but especially Thotada, the houseboat ride and not to forget the beautiful and quiet bird sanctuary - Munderi kadavu. Few things to keep in mind - take a binocular with you for the bird sanctuary, be at the bekal fort after 3:00 p.m. to avoid the sun, and I went only for an hour on the houseboat ride, so see what your perferences are in terms of timings. Otherwise, Anne, Sudha and Sushil will not leave you wanting for anything! If you want an awesome girls or family weekend, you couldn't have chosen a better place.
