If you are looking for beautiful beaches that you have mainly for yourself, great views, amazing food and lots of care - this is the place to be. I stayed for two weeks and loved every day. the house is spacious and well designed, my room had an amazing view out over te ocean, the beach is endless and perfect for strolling along and the food, the food!! Mr. Reddy is an amazing cook, each and every meal was just so well prepared, you could taste the love that was putting into cooking it. Three lovely meals a day and when I signalled that I was pretty full, he just looked at me: "Slowly, slowly and then finish!" with this sparkle in his eyes. One of the best beach (and FOOD!) experiences I ever had - and I have quite a few! Thanks for everything!!

Ocean Hues is one of the very few places which you will keep remembering forever! Be it the location, the food, the personal care given to the guests - its outstanding. Mr Suresh is a wonderful host, who has given complete attention to every detail to his beach house. The caretaker Mr Reddy in the other hand is maintaining it so well. You have your own private beach at your doorstep without any external disturbances - if you are travelling with your family and kids and looking for privacy - this is the place. Mr Reddy has gifted culinary skills and you will have to personally experience it, you will definitely fall in love with the coastal kerala cuisine. If you are a seafood lover, you can walk down to the fishing village thats located very closeby on the beach, and buy the fresh catch out from the sea. Overall it was a wonderful stay with very good memories. Will definitely visit again with my extended family!!

Very clean & beautiful property right on the beach. Rooms are spacious with a good view of the sea is very relaxing. The highlight is the beach, white sand, very clean & no one around. I would just take a point off for the service. Since I was staying with my kid, I was bound to have certain requests. At times I had to run down to remind the staff of something I requested hours ago. Though most of the requests were catered, at times I sensed a bit of fuss. For the amount paid, one would expect a little better service. Otherwise a memorable place to chill & relax.

The winding narrow lanes were lined with a thick green cover and as I was driving by old rustic houses on either side, the scent of sea in the air and the sun shining through the coconut trees I felt like I had taken the road back in time when life was not a race to win but a journey to experience. I was planning a short weekend getaway with a few friends, to do nothing but unwind and put our feet up. Being sheer beach bums, we were in search of a destination by the coastline. It was then someone suggested Kannur since the beaches were supposed to be beautiful and secluded. It was only 320kms away from Bangalore so we decided to explore this new destination and zeroed in on a beach house called Ocean Hues. (Research Tip: We stumbled upon this place by finding the Kannur coastline on Google maps and scrolling along the coastline to find a place right by the ocean & Viola!) We arrived at our temporary home after a pleasant drive through the tapering roads leading straight to the beach. I stood stunned on the veranda gaping at the landscape ahead and I had not even stepped into the house yet. The location of this beach house was nothing short of heavenly - a long stretch of white sandy beach with coconut grooves skirting the edge and the calm clear sea water changing shades under the bright blue skies. Kannur, in gods own country Kerala had certainly got my attention. After soaking in the gorgeous scenery, we decided to explore the inside of this very aptly named bungalow. Ocean Hues turned out to be a beautiful and simple yet elegant house with 4 rooms of different sizes. The largest room has a private balcony with a sea view and a jacuzzi in the bathroom (Honeymooners! take note! This is a place you want to explore). If you thought it couldnt get better, all meals & snacks are served on the veranda overlooking the sea. Mr. Reddy is the house keeper who makes amazing home cooked south Indian meals and scrumptious seafood. He believes the only way to pay respect to a persons cooking is to wipe the utensils clean. Hence come prepared to binge and wear loose pants at mealtime. He is attentive to the needs of the guests and maintains the property like his own. Brownie, his chocolate coloured dachshund embodies the spirit of vacationing here Eating like a glutton and lounging under the sun with the sea breeze in his fur. Ocean hues had met the brief of our holiday and then some. We decided to take a walk along the beach to enjoy the sundown. This beach has a handful of visitors even at that hour so it is easy to lose yourself in the harmony of the waves and the deep orange splayed across the horizon. A short distance away, the tide goes out and uncovers a cluster of rocks on the beach which extends into the water like a jetty. It is the perfect spot to sit and watch the setting sun. In the next couple of days, we easily slipped into this beautiful rhythm of slow paced life by swimming in the clear waters, going on long walks, perching on the rocks to watch the sunsets and eating simple yet delicious food. The cleanliness across the city and beaches come as a pleasant surprise and this followed suit even when we visited the Kannur lighthouse. The view from atop the lighthouse is a sight for sore eyes. It gives a panoramic view of the lush city and coastline on one side and the horizon on the other. However, the lighthouse closes at 5pm hence watching the sunset from the viewpoint is not an option. Another unique experience Kannur offers is the Muzhappilangad drive-in beach where you can literally drive your car on the beach along the waves, so do not miss the opportunity. On our last night at Ocean Hues, we were sitting on the veranda around midnight and star gazing. It was a no-moon night and the milky way was partially visible. Almost like a Christmas miracle, we saw a shooting star across the sky. We were so thrilled and looking out for more shooting stars that we even forgot to make a wish! When we did not see anymore and assuming this to be the highlight of the night, we finally settled down. I began looking out at the dark, frightening & vast expanse of the sea when I caught a glimpse of an electric blue current flicker across the waves. I convinced myself that I was hallucinating. But it happened again and this time I was sure I saw it. I could not figure out if it was the reflection of the street light on the waves or was I seeing what I thought I was seeing. I contained my excitement and asked my friends if they could also see the blue current. Could we be this fortunate? After a lot of debate, there was no denying it. The waves began to emanate a bright blue electric current with fierce frequency. We were witnessing a spectacular phenomenon called Bioluminescence. Scientifically, it is the production and emission of light by living organisms. However lyrically, it looked exactly like a Patronus charm. For those who arent familiar with the Harry Potter series, it looked to be a stream of light spewing from a magic wand like the ocean was putting up an enchanting light show. Its the best feeling when a holiday unexpectedly turns out to be much more than you envisaged. It was time to return home the following day but Kannur and Ocean Hues beach house turned our short weekend getaway into a lifetime memory. So, the next time you feel the need to remove yourself from the hassles of city life, consider exploring this quaint and underrated city of Cannanore.

My family and I stayed at Ocean Hues for 3 nights in March 2018. It was undoubtedly the best beach vacation I've taken in a long time. The location itself, once you get to the beach house is picturesque, secluded and lush with greenery. The beach is almost deserted and fairly clean, and the waters are invitingly warm. There are no external signs leading to the beach house, at least not that we noticed. However, we used Google maps and it accurately guided us to the right location - although sometimes, we'd drive past a turn and have to come back. However all of this is well worth the place once you step into the gates. The surroundings are lush with greenery and the grounds of the beach house are beautifully maintained. We stayed in the eluxe room that was perfect for 3 adults and 2 little kids. This appears to be one of the newer rooms at the beach house and has really nice interiors, with a fancy shower stall, and a jacuzzi tub. They even tied a string outside on request and supplied us with clothes pins for drying swim wear and beach towels. The food cooked by Mr. Reddy and crew was simply phenomenal. We got to taste some of the best Kerala cuisine - heavy on vegetables, with delicious chicken and fish dishes, dosas, appams, etc. Our routine was basically eat - beach - sleep for 3 days straight. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a secluded relaxing beach getaway.
